Digipak analysis – Eminem

The title of this album is called recovery. This is shown on the front of the digipak cover, in bold white writing. A medical symbol is used for the letter ‘o’ in the title. This gives to impression that certain lyrics or songs within this album may be linked to either the artist or someone else who is in recovery or rehabilitation.

Another link that gives the supposition that this album has a link to this is this it could be argued the road that the man, (thought to be Eminem) is walking along could be showing the ‘road to recovery’.

The disk inside the digipak shows the same red and white cross that was used for the letter ‘o’ in the front cover. This symbol is seen in the medical industry to symbolise first aid, pushing the idea that the person who the artist is focusing on is gaining is needs to gain a better health. The cover inside the digipak shows the artist sitting in what is set up to be a front room, with himself on the sofa watching television, contained in a glass box in a public area. This is representing the feeling of being alone and excluded from the rest of society. This feeling is relating to the medical conditions which are depression and addiction.

The back cover of the digipak shows Eminem sitting down in the glass box, in his hometown of Detroit. This is shown by the signs in the top right hand of the photo. Again much like the rest of the digipak, the main focus is on the artist. The signs display the words, ‘Eminem welcomes you to Detroit’ however no one is around or in sight. This is picture supports the theory of Eminem explaining through imagery, how alone people who have bad medical conditions like depression and addiction fee, and that he or the person he is focusing this theme on is on the road to recovery.
