Begin the body of your email by complimenting your instructor on theirlast class— making specific reference to something covered in class. Follow these comments with your requests.

Always be sure to reference the attendancepolicy by indicating:
• how many absences are excused and how many you will have left• what work will be expected of you during the next class (e.g., homework/ reading assignments)
Syllabus Referencing (for General Requests):Before making a request, be sure to acknowledgethat you have made an effort to get the answersto your concerns from your syllabus. Then follow with your request.
Personal Responsibilities

Always be sure to express to your instructorwhat you will do to obtain the material that you will missed during class (e.g., from Blackboard,from a classmate, etc.) – NOT from your instructorunless prior arrangements were made.
