Developing Speaking Skills in Different Situations

It is important for students to understand that no matter what activity or social

circumstance they find themselves in, they need to make themselves understood.

Although that most students find that talking in front of the TEFL class can be a very

daunting experience it can provide useful practice and will improve confidence.

Some suggestions to assist students to relax and help them develop the ability to speak in

a variety of situation:

-Don’t rush: remember that people will, in most circumstances, be patient and

understanding when they know that you are a second language speaker.

-Speak audibly and clearly: Attempt to vary your choice of words and make sure that you

can be heard.

-Vary your pace and intonation: Try and put as much expression in your voice as you can. Remember, it is vitally important to sound

interested or interesting.
