TECHNOLOGY SPACE
NEW EDTECH PRODUCTS AND PROGRAMS
US edtech sector has witnessed emergence of several new edtech
products and platforms in Q3–2014.
Education.com has launched Brainzy — online learning program designed
to focus on reading and math skills of children aged 3–7. Brainzy is
available in monthly subscription for US$6.99 or annual subscription,
resulting in US$3.99 per month. The program also enables parents or
teachers to track progress and performance of students.
Music Learning Theory, concept developed by University at Buffalo in 1970
to analyze how music is learned, is introducing an online program —
Advanced Graduation Certificate. The program is for students who have
completed their graduation from an accredited institute. The program
helps educators and students to apply their knowledge obtained in MLT in
any individual teaching settings. The course would focus on use of MLT in
in music classroom at deeper level.

US EDUCATION STATISTICS
EDUCATION DEMOGRAPHICS IN THE US
US — as per the National Center for Educational Statistics — had 98,328
public schools and 30,861 private schools, and 2,011 public higher
education institutions, and 5,233 private higher education institutions, as
of 2012.
There are an estimated 77.63 million people enrolled in various
educational institutions across the US, in 2014. Out of these,
approximately 55.59 million (71.6%), are enrolled in K–12 schools, while
approximately 22.04 million (28.4%) are enrolled in postsecondary
educational programs.
