Case Study Example:

1. Name of Organization:Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)

2. Goal: To Raise Money to support the fight against the disease

3. Strategy Employed:YouTube Videos showing people throwing Ice Buckets on each other.

Donations were made to the alsa.org website.

4. Over $115 Million was raised as a result of the event.

5. Research and write a conclusion and analysis of your findings.

In Week 2, the readings focus on:

1. Social Media Culture: How Social Media like Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, LinkedIn, Blogging have changed the way we work, live and interact with each other.

2. The Lasting Impact of Digital Media on Civil Society:• The Power Digital Media has

given to civil society a voice, which allows them to express their opinions, like they never did before.

3. Always-On/Always-On-You—The Tethered Self:• People can, at times, become

less connected with each other because of digital technology. But making connections that matter is critical to us as a society.

4. Impact of the Internet on Users; Introduction users, technology, and technological determinism:• How the power of the internet

has given “users” unprecedented opportunity and how they have adapted to the rapid pace of changes in technology.

5. Video: Watch the amazing TED video on:• How mobile devices (specifically

SMS texts) were used to aid in Humanitarian efforts during Haiti’s earthquake of 2010, as well as in Kenya, Mongolia and Nigeria.
