This is Charles in 1907.

His first job in Montana was a sheep herder .You would think he would have a better job.
This is one of his paintings called The Scouts.

Charles was always thinking about how it would be to be a rancher , always fighting Native Americans.
When he was herding his first head of cattle he was fighting rustlers.
In 1882, he went to work as a cowboy on a night wrangler job on cattle drives and round ups this is a better job than herding sheep.
During his days on the range , Charles always had a sketch pad and some brushes he was always sketching when he had a chance.
When he had some experience he quit to become an artist.

Charles married Nancy Cooper and adopted his son Jack.
Charles made approximately 4,000 works of art during his life.
When Charles died he was 62 years old…He died of a heart attack (1862-1926).
