Training and

Qualification

s •High school students interested in becoming a lawyer should take courses in English, history, and law and government. After high school, civil litigators require the same education as other lawyers.

•To become a lawyer, you must attend law school and complete a law degree. Before applying to law school, however, you must first complete a bachelor’s degree. Bachelor’s degrees usually take 4 years to complete.

JOB OUTLOOK There are many things that you can do with a law degree besides practice law if opportunities are limited when you graduate.

There will continue to be more emphasis on alternative dispute resolution mechanisms (that is, the resolving of disputes outside of the traditional formal justice system). Litigation in the traditional court system is simply becoming too expensive and time-consuming for most people.

SUMMARY This career would take a lot of hard work, and a minimum of 8 years in college, but I think that it is worth it. This career does still appeal to me. My personality profile says that I am a “Champion”. Champions can be tireless in talking with others, like fountains that bubble and splash, spilling over their own words to get it all out. Champions have outstanding intuitive powers and can tell what is going on inside of others, reading hidden emotions and giving special significance to words or actions. Champions are positive, exuberant people, and often their confidence in the goodness of life and of human nature makes good things happen. All these will be great characteristics for a civil litigator to have!
