FIND FUTURE EMPLOYEES1

We have over 7,000 students all looking to make a difference!
Employers can leverage taking placement students as a year
round recruiting tool. Placements are available at different
times of the year depending on the program and SLC has
over 80 programs - that means plenty of choice and flexibility.
Implementing a placement program provides you an ongoing
pipeline of future full-time employees. For many, the process
of recruiting and hiring is a drain on company resources. Our
solution: raise your corporate profile at the College. Appeal to
tomorrow’s staff members when they’re looking for placement,
and all you have to do is choose the best of the bunch when
it comes time to hire. Moreover, our campuses are viral
communities. This means if your organization impresses one
class of students, word will quickly spread. Soon you’ll find the
most sought-after student talent is interested in working with
you.
TEST-DRIVE THE TALENTIt’s a human resources reality: A new employee makes a solid
impression in the interview, but then just doesn’t gel with your
current team or your company’s way of doing things. Because
of this, hiring someone as a placement is the most effective
way to evaluate their potential as a full-time employee. When
you “try out” candidates, you make fewer mistakes when it
comes to full-time staffing; you avoid the pitfall of training a new
hire, only to find out they’re not a fit for your organization…or
that the entry-level employee doesn’t like the field. Developing
an ongoing placement program lets you benefit from added
manpower, while more accurately assessing candidates.
INCREASE PRODUCTIVITYSpeaking of additional manpower, setting up a placement
program allows you to take advantage of short-term support.
The extra sets of hands help your employees be more
productive, prevent them from becoming overburdened by
side projects, as well it frees them up to accomplish more
creative high impact tasks.
TAKING SOMEONE AS A PLACEMENT STUDENT IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO EVALUATE THEIR POTENTIAL AS A FULL-TIME EMPLOYEE.

4INCREASE EMPLOYEE RETENTIONThe proof for the test-driving theory is in the positive employee-
retention figures: According to the NACE’s 2012 Experiential
Education Survey, almost 40% of employers reported a higher
five-year retention rate among employees they’d hired via their
placement programs.

ENHANCE PERSPECTIVEIt’s not just the extra sets of hands that make students beneficial.
New people bring with them novel perspectives, fresh ideas,
and specialized strengths and skill sets. Students can augment
the abilities of your professional workforce and are usually
happy to share new technology solutions or new methods. 50%
of our students have come back to college from work or from
university experience.
GIVE BACK TO YOUR COMMUNITY85% of Eastern Ontario’s businesses employ less than 25
people. As a small business, you likely rely on community
support. Creating a placement program is an excellent way
to give back. Hiring interns not only helps students in your
community get started; it enhances the local workforce as a
whole.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN A STUDENT’S LIFEPlacements provide students numerous advantages: They
gain experience, develop skills, make connections, strengthen
their resumes, learn about a field, and assess their interest
and abilities. Offering a placement is particularly beneficial,
because it enables economically disadvantaged students to
participate – those who are less affluent often find jobs based
on meritocracy not their family network. Why not help a student
that deserves a great opportunity and inspire them.
