Felicity Ann Jones is the name my parents chose for me. I am 12 years old and have flowing dark blond hair with bright brown eyes. I am short for my age. My family and I sailed here from England. We moved here for religious reasons. My friends tell me I am a sweet, caring person.

My mother’s name is Sarah and my father’s name is William. I have two older sisters named Grace and Anna Beth. I also have a five year old brother named George who is named after my Great-Grandfather. I have a pet Blood Hound named Rufus. He brings a great joy to the family. My family is very loving and kind. I am glad to have such a great family.

I have the most wonderful house! My father and my uncle Samuel built it the year we moved to America. It has a kitchen and a bedroom where we all sleep. Both of the rooms have a fire place that keeps us warm at night. I am thankful to have such an amazing home.

Mother always makes me wear a dress and a bonnet . Most of the time they are made of cotton or wool. I absolutely hate wearing a bonnet! It makes my head itch so badly. On Sunday I wear my dress shoes to church. I love to wear them!

Father is a hard working blacksmith. He makes just enough money to provide for our family. Of the many tools he has he uses his hammer the most. You can hear him pounding his hammer all day long! He is always tired when he comes home after a hard day of work .

My mother, Sarah, takes care of the people who are sick. When someone in our village gets sick Mother is the person they call for to get better. Our village would not have survived the winter if it was not for Mother. She is their saving grace.

I have many chores to do on a regular bases , like cleaning, sewing, cooking, washing the clothes, and caring for George and Rufus. All of my family members have very important chores. Sometimes George helps Father in the forge, but when he is not helping Father, he is doing his chores. Grace and Anna Beth have many chores, too.

When we have free time we play with our toys! I have a beautiful cornhusk doll named Samantha. Anna Beth gave her to me. It was hers when she was a little girl. George plays with his stick and hoop. He could play with it all day long. My favorite game to play is Hide-n-Seek.

Though we may be poor, my parents always have food to put on the table. For breakfast we usually have a biscuit with eggs and milk to drink. We have vegetable soup for lunch. Dinner is the best meal of the day! We usually have venison or fish with a baked potato and leftovers from lunch.

George, Anna Beth, Grace, and I go to the same school. It is a one room schoolhouse that has 2nd through 10th grade. I am in the 6th grade. Our teacher’s name is Ms. Bradford. We write with a quill and on parchment. I really like going to school.

I almost never misbehave. I have only been whipped once. Anna Beth got me in trouble by tattling on me. She is always getting into trouble herself. When we misbehave Father makes us go out and pick a tree branch to whip us. It is very painful. I could barely sit down for a week.

When people get sick we use herbs and other plants to heal them. Mother has some of these plants growing in the garden. If you have a fever, they would put damp rags on your face to keep you cool. If you got too sick, they might not have the medicines to make you better. So, I would try and stay healthy.

I absolutely love to go to church! We learn about the Lord and the miracles he has done. I believe if it was not for the Lord we would not have made it to America. All of the children have to go to church.

There are some laws that you should not break. If you break these laws you have to pay the price. If you have killed someone you will most likely get a death sentence. Stealing is, also against the law. If you steal you would have to pay the person back the amount the object was worth then, do some hard labor.
