Age is no barrier – young in mind is just as good as young in body;

and 3rd year you choose what to study, to suit your interests and

intended career. Find out so much about the world around you and

across the globe.

But we haven’t yet mentioned one other wonderful reason for

joining us – our degrees are validated by Lancaster University, one

of Britain’s top 10 universities and one of the world’s best 100. It’s a

Lancaster degree you come out with but it’s taught entirely here in

Blackburn. Don’t accept anything less!

You’ve already read about some overleaf but here are a few more.

We’ve graduates who work in the media, who work for the Deputy

Speaker of the House of Commons and for the former Foreign

Secretary, work in the NHS, are youth workers, have graduated

into the Police and into social work on various different pathways.

Many also go on to postgraduate study* including some of the

most prestigious universities in the country.

The BA (Hons) Social Science degree even boasts a distinguished

local brewer so when you try a glass of Irwell Works brewery beer

you’ll know it was Social Science at Blackburn that inspired it!

Mahatma Gandhi:

“Seven social sins: politics without principles, wealth without work, pleasure without

conscience, knowledge without character, commerce without morality, science without

humanity, and worship without sacrifice.”

Where do Social Science undergraduates come from?

They come to the degree from various routes – A levels, BTEC, Adult Access courses,

mature candidates looking for a career change and retirees seeking to acquire the degree

they were never able to study for in their youth. Geographically they come from East

Lancashire, from across the North-West of England and Yorkshire, from Ireland, Scotland

and Wales, from the Midlands and even from the South and South West of England.

We’re an eclectic mix and that just adds to the fun.

*Students will be required to undertake a teaching qualification upon completion of the course to move into teaching.
