Audience Survey Analysis

We conducted an online survey to see what people like about horrors and where there is a gap in the market so that we can make out film suit everyone and make sure we could get the most profit as possible.

The first question asked was ‘What type of horror would you be most likely to watch?’ this was so we could get a good idea of what people liked to go and see and also where there could be a potential gap in the market.

As you can see from the survey, the majority of people like supernatural horror, this is good for us because that is the sub-genre that we where going to base out film on. But not all people chose supernatural so there is at least a little gap in the market.

The second question that we asked was ‘What type of storyline do you like?’ this is to help us get a good idea on what we should be basing our film on weather the reason for that is a gap in the market or because it is what the people like.

The survey shows that most people who watch horrors like either mass killing sprees or a film that is based on a real life story so we think it would be a good idea to choose one of these. The killing spree idea wouldn’t be possible for us because we don’t have enough actors to be killed off also it would be easier to say that our film is based on a real life story.

Thirdly we asked the audience ‘ What type of characters do you like to see?’ we asked this so that our actor knew how he should act so that the audience will be pleased.

The audience said that they like to see a cocky character as the main character this is probably because people don’t like to cocky people and want to see them in danger. Also the people who completed the survey said that a horror should have a mysterious figure; this is probably to add the scare factor to the film, so we will try to keep that in mind when making our film.

The next thing we needed to know about was the location that we should film, so we asked the audience ‘What location do you like to see in a supernatural horror?’ this is because we want the audience to like our film so we needed to get the location right because that is what the audience will be looking at the entire time.

Out of the four options we gave the audience to choose from, only two where actually chosen so this narrowed it down which made it easier for us to choose. Although abandoned buildings were the most popular it would be hard for us to find one to film in. Luckily for us wood/forest was the second most popular and that would be easy for us to do.

The last question we asked was ‘What props would you expect to see in a horror film?’ although this wouldn’t really effect our film we still wanted to know what the audience liked to see.

The people who filled out our survey said that they liked the idea of a mask in the film but as we don’t have a killer there would be no reason for us to have a mask, the same goes for the weapon. Children’s toys on the other hand could be used to add shock value because no one wants to know about a child’s death.
