Monash Association of Debaters (MAD) Member Training Program 2010 presents: ADVANCED TACTICS by Fiona Prowse, 2009 Australasian Intervarsity Debating Champion and Grand FInalist at the 2008 World University Debating Championships Briefly reviews the basics of good debating before moving into discussion on how to best utilise prep, shape debates to your advantage, construct sophisticated arguments, use advanced manner and establish strong team dynamics. Presented as session 2, semester 1 in the Intermediate/Advanced Stream.

The Basics• Don’t make bad arguments

• Don’t laugh at opposition teams, no matter how dumb they may be

• Don’t try to hide team members

• Don’t debate for a speaker prize

• Always get feedback, listen to what adjudicator says
