Welcome in the factory

On Monday 5th December 2011, teachers and all the students taking part in the Comenius project "Today's child tomorrow's entrepreneur" went on a trip to the yeast factory in Wołczyn. First we were invited to the conference room where we were able to carry out the interview with the director of yeast factory in Wołczyn.

InterviewStudents: When was the company founded?Director: The company was founded in 1893.S: How many people does the factory employ?D: At present, Lesaffre Poland SA employs 277 workers.S: Where do the facory sell its products?D: We export products to the Scandinavian countries, Southern Europe and the Baltic States.S: Does the company have a treatment plant?D: Yes, our company has a biological treatment.S: When did you begin the work on the position of the director of the factory?D: I have been the director of the company since 1991, but previously I was the head of the mechanical department in the factory.

InterviewS: What departments are located in the Lesaffre Poland SAD: Lesaffre Poland SA consists of the following departments: production, marketing, accounting - financial, trade, investment, logistics and sales, maintenance and agriculture.S: What are the major awards that the company received?S: I think the most important award for us are „Now Poland”, and „Poland's Golden Laurel of Quality.”S: What is the most important to achieve a success in bussines?D: Primarily choosing the appropriate team of trusted employees.S: How many offices does the factory have?D: The company has 40 subsidiaries worldwide, including 17 in Europe.S: What products do you produce apart from yeast?D: Most of all different additives for baking.

PresentationAfter the interview, one of the workers Lesaffre Poland SA gave us a presentation about Wołczyn yeast. We also learnt about two other factories dealing with yeast:Łódź:- production department-bakery additives, improvers-mixtures and pastriesWarszawa:-market development department-office of the president-baking center

All you should know about yeastFresh, pressed and liquid yeast is

produced for the needs of the bakery market.

Pressed and dry yeast is produced for the home usage.

100 g of yeast consists of:- 49% protein,- 40% carbohydrates,- 7% of vitamins and trace elements- 4% fat.

For the production of yeast is needed: water, oxygen, sugar, nitrogen, phosphorus, trace elements (copper, iron, zinc, manganese).The manufacturing process of yeast takes about 7 days.A swallow is the symbol of the factory since 1936.

In the laboratoryWe were shown the place where the yeast is packaged, refrigerated, and the laboratory. We were also in the room where the yeast is mixed.

Guided tour around the factoryThe worker who guided us showed us the process of fermentation of yeast. The smell in this place was not pleasant, but it was worth seeing the factory from the inside.
