Side Table Project
SIDE TABLES
• Side tables are made of ¾” poplar• Legs are ‘1x3’s( ¾ x 2.5”); taper is cut with
bandsaw and then hand-planed• Rails are 1x4’s or 1x6’s• Top and middle shelf are edge-glued 1x6’s; top
edge is finished with 3/8” roundover done with portable router
• Fastening is done with countersunk 1-5/8” drywall screws, covered with wood filler
• Tables are finished with polyurethane
Variation on tableIncludes 1” stripeof wengelaminated into topor pull-out drawer
Napkin Holder
• The napkin holders use a common base of 1x3 poplar cut to 3” x 2.5”
• Side pictures are drawn using templates, cut out on the bandsaw, and hand-sanded
• Napkin capacity is 1.5”
• Side pictures are fastened to base using countersunk 1-5/8” drywall screws
Merry-Go- Round
• The Merry-go-round consists of a an 8” diameter carousel disk with a 5/8” diameter center hole, a 5” diameter disk with a ½” diameter center hole, and an 11” ½” diameter dowel
• 4 figures ride on the merry-go-round; these could be laser-cut
• The carousel disk is suspended by nylon string
Letters
• Letters, cut out with a coping saw, are a fun project
• Tops and bottoms should have a flat area for gluing together, using a ¼” dowel for added strength
Jewelry stand is madeof a found stick attachedinto a 4.5” diameter diskof 1x6 poplar;brass hooks can thenbe added to the branches
Clock/Wall shelf
Clock Wall shelf
• Shelves are made of 1x4 poplar
• Top and clock face is 1x6 poplar
• Shelves fastened with countersunk 1 5/8” drywall screws
• Hours are marked with hardwood plugs sanded flat
• Clock is battery powered quartz unit- see http://www.klockit.com/
Table Clock
• Base and top are 1x3 poplar
• Clock face is edge-glued 1x6 poplar
• Hours are marked with 3/8” wood plugs sanded smooth
• Quartz movement and hands from Klockit.com
Rocking figures
• Rockers( 2) are from 1x4 poplar or pine
• Figure in center is traced using template
Baskets
• Baskets can be in all different sizes
• Side strips are ¾” w x 3/16” thick, attached with brads and glue
• End panels can be plain or whimsical
• End panel can include a ¾” dia hole for dowel-handle
Figures can be made from¾” pine notched to fit togetherwithout glue

Paddle-Wheel Boat
Box with sliding top
• Box is ¼” x 2.5” pine
• Slot for top is 1/8”( cut on table saw)
Spoon
• Spoon is mahogany, with blank 1.5” x 3.5”
• Bowl cut with gouge, then rest on bandsaw
