Footway/Carriageway Chamber
Designation of chamber to be specified as per Virgin Media standards (FW4/FW6/CW1 etc.)
Works for developer will be highlighted blue and works for Virgin Media contractor will be red.
Swept Tee (Lateral Connection)
Tee s will be shown sweeping in the direction of the serving distribution cabinet as
shown in the examples above.
Distribution and Nodal Cabinets
Cabinets are highlighted as an inverted triangle. If a chamber is required for the cabinet build (non FTTP) then this will be
highlighted at the base of the cabinet in red to determine Virgin Media contractor works.
Off Site (Virgin Media) Works
Works to be completed by Virgin Media will be highlighted in red and will encompass all works external to a developers site allowing the Virgin Media network to reach the development.
On Site (Developers) Works
On Site works to be completed by developer will be highlighted in blue to show the variation to
Virgin Media works. This includes on site chamber construction as part of cabinet deployment.
Duct Arrangements
Duct routes are all shown as a single line, the number of ducts in the route will be signified by a way count for example a 2 way duct is
signified as 2W. For full details on duct arrangements please see drawing VMTD0017d.

AX-S Concrete Infill
Cubis AX-S Concrete Infill covers are the sole approved footway cover used by Virgin Media.
AX-S Concrete Infill covers are rated to B125 load classification and meets the requirements of BS EN124: 1994 (B125). All concrete infill
lids are slip resistant and have no inherent scrap value.

Silent Knight and Inter-Ax2 Ductile Iron
CW1 CW2
Skid resistant D400 class/Group 4 carriageway frame and covers. Suitable for use in carriageway environments only.
Recessed covers are tested (unfilled) to the B125 load classification and can be filled with
any material to suit the surrounding area.
In line with industry specification, individual AX-S recessed covers will not weigh more
than 78Kg even when filled. This is to allow a single person to lift out the cover using the
lift and slide design.
Please discuss your chamber requirements with your local Virgin Media site contact before site works begin. Standard chamber lids can be sourced quickly but there may be a lead time on specialist covers/recessed covers.

Virgin Media approved and supplied concrete inset chamber lid to B125 for either FW1 or FW2 assembly. Cubis recommends the use of the Riser Frame unit with
this assembly.
For the Monobox assembly, all core cuts must be at least 50mm from the base of the unit to maintain structural integrity.
50 Min. Duct core hole spacing should be no more than 50% of the largest duct size i.e. 50mm
for a 100mm duct utilised.
Maximum duct arrangement of 2W per face in no more than 2 faces per box. The FW2 size chamber is only
designed for turning cables and should more than one direction be
required then at least an FW3 or FW4 chamber should be utilised.

The DETA EuroModule compliant face plates are an easy fit option for any new build home. Available in a selection of
finished from White to Satin and Brushed Chrome finishes you will find a version to suit the finish of your new build home.
Virgin Media recommends the use of the DETA 1975 series of lounge plates which incorporate fixed 13A power sockets and
an option for up to 6 module spaces for expansion.
We advise that at least 2 EuroModule sockets are retained for use by Virgin Media in the lower part of the media plate and if
possible reserve the entire lower slot for our use.
RJ45 (Ethernet) EuroModuleIdeal if you are pre-wiring you house with Ethernet sockets
back to a patch panel in a comms or electrical cupboard.
HDMI EuroModuleA pass through face plate allowing you to have a fixed HDMI point, very useful
for prewiring to a wall mounted TV location. If using this module then
please ensure this is used in the upper row of the faceplate.

This model of media plate allows 3 modules per row, we require at least 2 module spaces in the lower row which
we will supply brush plates for if required.

module. The 1pr extension cable should then be run back to the master phone socket location.
We do not authorise the use of Euro Modules as master phone sockets, please check with your Virgin Media
contact to confirm phone wiring options in your development.
HDMI modules are best connected in the upper plate or in a standalone back-box next to your media plate if you are also deploying a dual satellite feed. You might struggle to
fit an HDMI cable plus 2 coaxial feeds in one row.Example EuroModules...

RJ11 (Telephone) EuroModuleThis module allows the connection of a single phone socket as a extension only. We require
you fit a master Telephone socket for us at the main ingress point of the property, next to the BT
socket if applicable. Please discuss your on site Telephone requirements with your Virgin Media Site Engineer before deploying any final wiring.
Satellite/Terrestrial EuroModuleAvailable in varying colours, these 50x50mm module slots allow twin satellite cable connections as well as options for Terrestrial TV and
DAB connectivity from a fixed aerial.
Virgin Media Euro Module with In Line IsolatorOur branded Euro module outlet allows you to have a single fixed master Coaxial socket in a Euro module faceplate without the need for
additional wall-boxes. These units are supplied by Virgin Media, please specify in advance if
you require these.
This is intended as a guide for fitting Euro Module adapters and faceplates. Virgin Media don t supply these consumable items apart

If internal trunk cabling is to be utilised for a larger MDU then a separate grade of cable will be supplied which meets the fire regulations required. This can either be installed by your electricians or our cable teams depending on

Primary Lockbox, either for terminating incoming external cabling or used as a primary connection point for the entire building if capacity suits the size of the cabinet.
The primary distribution cabinet should always be installed directly above or next to the incoming 96mm
duct feed, so there is no more than 3m distance between of external cable run within a building.
Secondary lockboxes, utilised for larger MDU s and spaced every 2-3 floors depending on capacity and
cable lengths. Individual drop cable lengths should not exceed
50m and this should be taken into consideration when planning for
our cable deployment in your building.

All internal wiring from either an Internal distribution point or in home wiring will be our standard range of blown fibre single micro tubes. With an OD of only 6mm they are easy to
install alongside existing cabling runs.
Our external trunk cabling will be delivered along reinforced blown fibre
micro duct bundles. These cables will be used between our technical sites and all
main fibre cabinets in the field.
Blown fibre tubing from distribution points to Internal MDU boxes will be rated to BS7629 for low smoke fire protection and suitable for internal use within a property. The type and number of blown tubes utilised will
depend upon the requirements of the building and what network architecture is being used.

Once all PVC duct is installed, Virgin Media will pre pull individual blown fibre micro tubes from the
distribution cabinet to each termination box. Only at the point of customer install will a physical cable
be blown to the customers premise.
The blown fibre tubing pulled to the property will be coiled inside
the footway termination box against the property. When the customer is ready for install, we utilise a coupler and transfer the external blown fibre tube to a
thinner variant to take the blown fibre cable from the footway box to the external termination box (ETB).

This guide is designed to show at a high level what the different responsibilities for installing Virgin Media Duct and blown fibre on a New Build site. For developers, this process is quite
similar to how we have asked you install our network for some time, albeit some of the materials such as Termination boxes will look slightly different. For FTTP, pre wiring the home now becomes a more important task and we ask you to consider future proofing your homes
as much as possible. Please refer to VMTD0050 for details on pre wiring.

The clearest use for LSZH cables are confined spaces with large amounts of cabling such as service risers . LSZH cable will only be functional if all cabling in a specific route is LSZH rated. Installation at lower temperatures can be more difficult, the high additive loading in LSZH cabling jackets
reduces flexibility when the cables are cold. This increases the chances of material fracture if care is not given to the install of the cabling. LSZH cabling also has a lower friction coefficient and lubricant will often be required for complicated pulls or anything more than a straight through pull.
If a fire occurs in an open area in which smoke concentration is not sufficient to obscure escape routes , using an LSZH cable may not be beneficial.
LSZH cable is not provided as a standard measure, this must be requested before your project starts. Due to the lead time required from our manufacturer, we cannot supply this at short notice. (9 week lead time from Times Fiber).
All of our coaxial cable is rated to BS-EN 60332-1 (single wire) and BS-EN 60332-3 (bunched wire). For a cable to be classed as LSZH it must also meet the requirements of IEC 60754-1+2 (Test on gases evolved
during combustion of materials from cables) and IEC 61034 (Measurement of smoke density of cables burning under defined conditions) which our product ( SKU 10010319) meets.
LSZH cabling is approximately twice the cost of non LSZH cabling. Depending on the size of your development and the extent of works required, Virgin Media may require payment for LSZH cabling as part of the site agreement. Please discuss your requirements with your local New Build Officer before beginning works .
Working LSZH cabling is inherently difficult due to both the weight and workability of the material . The braiding is stiff and not as flexible as standard RG6 cabling. This makes cable pulling, especially in service risers, difficult without the aid of lubricant. The cable is also twice the weight of triple shielded RG6 cable meaning a single drum weighs in at 42Kg per 300m drum. Please bear this in mind as manual handling will require a 2 man operation as a minimum for pulling this cable.

as to the necessity or installation options available. This brief guide is designed to advise of the basic requirements of fire protection of cable

Fire sealing is the most crucial element for protection of cable routes within a
building. All duct routes between floors must be sealed with an adequate fire
sealant such as FireBreak 55.
Duct sealing at a building point of entry remains the responsibility of Virgin Media. We utilise the TDUX inflatable duct seal system from Comtec©
to seal both residential and commercial ducts that terminate inside a building.
Consideration should be given to the type of fire stopping used, if there is a potential to upgrade
cabling in future (i.e. if not deploying Virgin Media or only using single wire CT100 systems) then a reusable fire stopping solution like the
Rockwool® Multi Cable Firestop is recommended alternative to putty/clay based stopping.
