The Oakville Soccer Club’s under-17 boys A team’s dreams came true at the recent Disney Soccer Showcase in Orlando, Fla.

Oakville went undefeated in four games to win the boys U17 Predator-Black division at the prestigious tournament, which featured nearly 300 boys teams between the ages of 15-19.

Oakville clinched gold with a shootout victory over the Indiana state champion Carmel United SC Elite. After the teams failed to score throughout regulation and extra time, Oakville won the shootout 4-2 on goals by Nick McVicar, Braden Culver, Bishoy Girgis and Mathew Santos and two excellent saves by keeper Ignacio Jimenez.

Oakville’s other wins came over Maryland state semifinalist Freestate Red Devils (3-2), New York’s

Bayside United Premier (6-0) and Florida state semifi-nalist West Pines United FC Black (3-2). Santos paced Oakville with six goals during preliminary-round action, Girgis scored three and Daniel Borg, Culver and McVicar added singles.

Also contributing were Aaron Visant, Michael Bryla, Draven Stokes, Anton Buretic, Kamil Tkaczuk, Sebastien Mental, Maxim Preocanin, Junior Roserie and Andrew Martins. Mark Worton, Andy Culver and John Gibson coach the team, and Angela Preocanin is the manager.

The gold medal continued a strong history of suc-cess for the team at American tournaments. Over the past three years, the team has gone 23-1-2 at tourna-ments in the U.S. (the lone loss came against a Canadian team) and won four championships.
