“Pedagogy is the driver for the changes in library design,” says Ann Rossiter, director of the Society of College, National and University Libraries – “changes to the way undergraduates are expected to study, for example, including more social spaces, more social learning and group learning. The way that library buildings are changing is designed to reflect that.”

Undergraduate Programs (SCALE-UP) Project is to establish a highly collaborative, hands-on, computer-rich, interactive learning environment for large-enrollment courses.“ Tremendous scope for partnership with faculty, students and librarians.
Active learning in classes with 100 students or more. Interactive and engaging.

Students sit in three groups of three students at 6 or 7 foot diameter round tables.
Instructors circulate and work with teams and individuals, engaging them in Socratic-like dialogues.
Each table has at least three networked laptops.
The setting is very much like a banquet hall, with lively interactions nearly all the time.Source: http://www.ncsu.edu/per/scaleup.html
