Capital Improvement Plan
Approved Jefferson Academy Modernization Budget: $72.9M
FY17-FY22 DCPS CIP - Mayor Bowser added a total of $220M in FY17 & FY18 to “right-size” all planned modernization budgets
All DCPS Middle Schools will be complete by FY22. Projects in the CIP were done using a prioritization model.
Schools that have not had any modernization were prioritized.
Jefferson’s $72.9M and FY22 completion helped create a net budget increase of $38M from previous CIP budget.
CIP BUDGET FOR JEFFERSON
Estimates based on building square footage & estimated enrollment + capacity.
CIP includes hard and soft costs and includes $3M allowance for site work
Includes expected escalation costs for a construction start in FY21.

A SIT is a working group to provide feedback on a modernization project. A productive SIT has regular attendance from 10-15 members and include the following participants: School Leadership Teachers Parents (Including PTA/LSAT/HSA) Community Members Neighborhood Organizations & ANC
Each SIT will have a DCPS SIT Coordinator & and a DGS Project Manager. DCPS makes all final design decisions with feedback from the SIT DGS manages the the architect and builder.
The SIT will help serve as the link to the broader community by sharing project information and materials.
