Focus on First Grade Interviewer: Whelan S.Photographer: Daniel P.Reporter: Isabella P.
Today we got amazing answers from Ms. Nuzz. Recently her last marathon was definitely the best one yet! Her mom, dad, cousins, and classmates from Notre Dame all came to come cheer her on. Ms. Nuzz finished 5 marathons with her best time at 4:17 but she says time doesn’t matter, finishing the race does. Ms. Nuzz likes all her classes the same and doesn’t have a favorite. One of her favorite things about 1st grade are the iPads because they are very fun to learn on.
Later on in the day we got to ask Diego C. in 1st grade some questions. He likes to use the iPads because he can learn lots of math problems on them. The subjects he learns in class are science, math, reading, phonics, and writing. We had an amazing day with 1st grade. I hope they have a great year!

Adopt-a-Family and Toy Drive
Interviewer: Michael S.Photographer: Giovanni F.Reporter: Whelan S.
The fourth grade raised $338 dollars which was more
than enough money for the family they sponsored. Ms. Barragan has never met one of the families that her class has adopted. She likes the Adopt-a-Family program because it helps poor families with children. Fourth grade adopted a family of four and the extra money they raised went to another needy family. Mrs. Soriano is responsible for our school's Adopt-a-Family program. Ms. Barragan also thinks the toy drive is a good cause because it brings smiles to less fortunate children. Ms. Sessarego organizes the toy drive for SMCES.

Christmas Concert Interviewer: Ammon O.Photographer: Sarah S.Reporter: Anna M.
On December 11th, the St. Monica Catholic Elementary School had its Christmas concert at the St. Monica Church. Msgr. Torgerson started the concert with a prayer and words from the Pope about mercy. Then a greeting from our president Thom Gasper. After the reading One Night in Bethlehem, the TK and Kindergarten sang their songs. A reading about A Wonderful Message was next. 6th grade and 1st grade sang after that.
The Shepherds at Night was then read. 3rd grade, 5th grade, 4th grade and 7th grade sang soon after. The Tale of the Tree was the next reading.
Then the choir and the staff sang. All the students clapped, yelled and stomped their feet when their teachers were finished. The 2nd and 8th grade were the last to sing. Then everyone sang Silent Night.
Dr. Quinly did the closing speech. We want to thank Mrs. Birute for teaching us the songs.
Everyone then went to the Kris Kringle Cafe for treats, hot cocoa, and tamales.
Have a nice Christmas!!!!!!
