FROM THE PASTOR Dear Friends in Christ, Every year the 33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time, the penul mate Sunday of the liturgical year is marked with an asterisk in my liturgical desk calendar indi-ca ng that it is Stewardship Sunday. This year the Gospel reading hits us right between the eyes with the core message of stewardship. One does not need to be a person of great wealth to be a good steward. The me we give to the LORD in prayer will help us discern the talents we can use in service to God’s people. The treasure we have is a gi from the LORD and when we offer our first fruits and the 10% we are demonstra ng a Biblical no on which shows that we have priori zed rightly. We will be ge ng a quarterly report update this weekend from a member of the Finance Council. When the annual report was given last month I no ced that people le before hearing it if it was given at the end of mass. Consequently, a er that happened at the first mass, I directed the speak-er to take the me following an abbreviated homily at each of the successive masses. I now feel rather ambivalent about the whole thing. On the one hand I have the responsibility to give as much informa on about the finances of the parish as possible, but on the other I totally understand that people do not gen-erally come to church to hear about money. Stewardship really isn’t about money or fundraising. Stewardship is a word that could be interchanged with the word Disciple. If you are truly a Disci-ple of the Lord Jesus, you are most likely a good steward of your me, talent, and treasure. (Some add a fourth “t” tradi on to the famous three “t”s of stew-ardship.) Most of us are on a journey where we are s ll developing into the per-son God created us to be. We are growing either towards or away from God. We are becoming be er or worse stewards of the 4 “t”s that the Lord has en-trusted to us. I encourage you today to say goodbye to the fear that prevented the man in the Gospel parable from ac ng rightly. One person that has given so much of herself to the parish is Carol Rodri-guez. She will be the recipient of the St. Jude Medal Award next Sunday at a 3pm Ceremony by Bishop Lynch at the Cathedral. This honor takes place just two days a er our 4th Annual Auc on & Gala at the Red Rose Ballroom. Carol co-chairs the commi ee that puts on this event. The Old West Gold Rush is a fund-raiser but also a fun raiser and a community builder. If you can support this an-nual effort I would truly appreciate it, if not however, perhaps you could buy a “choose your prize” cket for the drawing that night. I would love to be able to tell the Bishop on Sunday what a successful event the 4th Annual Auc on & Gala was on Friday and how Carol was instrumental in it’s success.
Peace in Christ,
Fr. Tom Anastasia Pastor
