A community’s strength is measured by the voluntary contributions of time and energy made by its leaders. The future

of any community, therefore, is closely tied to the dedication and ability of its next generation of leaders.

Building Tomorrow’s Leaders TodayLJC is committed to the future of this region and the leadership

needed to meet the demands of tomorrow.

Leadership Jefferson County

The Leadership Jefferson County (LJC) program was developed in 1985 by the Board of Directors of what is now The West Chamber. It was designed to develop leadership potential within the community to meet the demands of tomorrow.

LJC identifies people who are emerging leaders within the Jefferson County area and gives them a broader view of civic leadership through direct contact with the people and institutions that shape the community.

It begins in September and continues through June. Monthly, full-day sessions expose participants to local and state government, health, education, arts, justice, business, nonprofit and human services. LJC participants may expand their knowledge and influence in their community through various contacts and guest speakers.

LJC does not advocate specific programs or particular solutions. Instead, the success of this program is measured by its positive effect on the participants, their organizations and the community.
