This short side trail takes you to one of the most interesting areas of the park and really should not be missed. It begins with a resting area in a charming cedar grove; a cool retreat on a hot day. As you continue you will see some truly captivating geologic features and, of course, the rock ovens after which this trail is named.

The footpath consists of natural material and is somewhat undefined but level and free from obstacles.

This single track trail is short but steep! It provides a connection between the Mission Creek Greenway and the Black Bear Trail creating a loop if you want to shorten yourhike. When walked from high to low you will have an unobstructed view of PinnacleRock. The footpath is narrow and steep in sections and has natural surfacing.

This trail leaves the Mission Creek Greenway, follows the creek and rejoins the Greenway800m upstream creating a beautiful loop trail that takes you through two different ecosystems: riparian and mixed forest. Due to the proximity to the creek, this trail is subject to flooding and may be closed periodically when creek flow is high.

The footpath starts out very wide and narrows into a single track trail. A short section of the trail near the half-way point presents some challenges thus the moderate rating, but overall the trail is fairly easy.

The footpath is very wide and has natural surfacing with some embedded rocks and ruts but otherwise the trail is in good condition. Watch for poison ivy along the trail.

This gently sloping trail descends into the park and joins with the Mission Creek Greenway trail. It used to be part of the Greenway until that trail was extended further upstream in2015. To help mitigate potential damage to the surrounding houses from the threat of wildfires, the vegetation in the upper portion of the park has been thinned, creating a more open feeling with widely spaced trees.

3The Mission Creek Greenway trail is accessed by the Saskatoon Trail. From this point it takes an elevated route along the mountainside before descending to Mission Creek. The trail then levels off and follows the water before terminating at the crossing of HydraulicCreek. A gigantic rock, aptly nick-named “the Big Rock”, is a fascinating feature alongthis trail as well as amazing views of Pinnacle Rock and Layer Cake Mountain.

The trail varies from a very wide footpath to a narrow single track, however, the footingis very good along the entire route with very few tripping obstacles.

What to Know Before You Go

Certain trails in the park have been chosen as ‘designated’ trails. This does not mean you cannot use another trail, but it will not be maintained to the same level as a designated trail.

How Hard Is The Trail?Trails in Regional Parks are rated according to a / / system of difficulty. This rating is based mainlygreen blue blackon the slope and distance of the trail, however, other factors will influence how difficult a trail is. All designated trails in Regional Parks are rated in the same way so if you hike another trail in a Regional Park with the same trail rating, the experiences should be similar.

Each of the designated trails on the map has a trail profile. Trail profiles are provided to give you a visual look at the‘ups’ and ‘downs’ of the trail. Pay attention to the height over distance when interpreting a profile.

Example Trail Blaze

Designated trails in Regional Parks are marked with trail blazes to confirm that you are on your chosen trail. They show a unique trail name, colour, and picture. Trail names on the blazes will alternate between English and nsyilxcən (the Okanagan language). Take note of at least one blaze feature to guide you on your hike.

How Do I Know Where I’m Going?

*Stay on the trails and keep dogs on a leash to help preserve the natural elements of the park*Bag and dispose of dog poo in garbage cans; don’t leave it on the trail!*Bring a water bottle, dress in layers and pack out garbage you pack in*Know your abilities and be prepared*Be aware you may encounter wildlife in Regional Parks*It is illegal to harass wildlife so view from afar; these parks are their homes and we are just visitors*Smell it, touch it, admire it- but leave flowers and plants for others to enjoy too*Respect adjoining property owners and do not trespass*Cell phone service may not be available in all areas of Regional Parks so don’t rely on it*Make sure your vehicle is locked and valuables are not left inside
