DEPUTY PRINCIPAL REPORT
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
In the upcoming weeks, our students in Years 4 to 6 will participate in the ‘Tell them from Me’ surveys.
The Tell Them From Me Parent Survey is anonymous, voluntary, and easy-to-use. It is based on a comprehensive questionnaire covering parents’ perceptions of their child’s experiences at home and at school.
This survey gives up vital information about students in our school and gives our students a voice to how they see their education at school. Based on this information we are able to make changes to the school environment based on student feedback from the surveys.

EARLY STAGE ONE NEWS
Welcome to Week 6! We are officially halfway through Term One and we are so very proud of how all Kindergarten children have transitioned to big school!
Kindergarten are continually encouraged and explicitly taught how to be SAFE, RESPONSIBLE and RESPECTFUL learners that follow teacher’s instructions continually.
Rough play is not tolerated at Samuel Terry Public School. If a child is found to be playing rough with other students, there will be a consequence for their actions.
It would be appreciated if parents could reinforce the ideas that at school we
* Keep our hands and feet to ourselves * Follow all teacher’s instructions
* Use kind words to others * No rough play
CLASSROOM TEACHING AND LEARNING OVERVIEW
Below is an overview of what your children are being exposed to in the classroom for the next 2 weeks. All Kindergarten classes are focusing on the same content throughout the term.
This ensures that consistency is occurring across the grade.
Sounds – I, F and D
Sight Words – up, comes, said, on, in
Math’s Concept – 2D shapes and length
“News” Discussion Topics – Free choice and ‘What I like about school!’
KINDERGARTEN CANTEEN USE
Kindergarten children are now permitted to use the canteen facilities at lunch time.
Infant’s children are not to use the canteen at recess time, they are asked to make a recess order at the canteen prior to the day commencing. This recess order will be delivered to their classroom. Please do not send excessive amounts of money to school for our children to spend at the can-teen. A maximum of $2 is encouraged.
BEST START PARENT FEEDBACK
Early next week, your child will bring home their Best Start Parent Feedback Report. This report gives you an insight into what your child displayed when they participated in the Best Start Assess-ment in both literacy and numeracy and what their teacher has been explicitly teaching in class time.
HOMEWORK, HOME READING, SIGHT WORDS
Please revise your child’s sight words and read with your children at least every other night.
Completing these homework tasks consolidate learning that occurs in the classroom. If you have not already purchased the Kindergarten homework book, please do so as soon as possible. Pay-ments can be made at the front office.
SCHOOL UNIFORM AND JEWELLERY
Please ensure that your child is in full school uniform. This includes school hat, grey socks for boys, and white socks for girls and black leather school shoes. Please ensure that your all clothing items are labelled. We ask that our children ensure their shirts are tucked in.
Due to safety issues that may arise – jewellery is not to be worn to school. Small sleeper type ear-rings / small studs are acceptable.
Thank you for all your support throughout the term so far.

Stage 1 News
School Uniform. The children look lovely in their uni-
forms and most children remember to wear their hats daily.
Congratulations to all these children! Great job! Generally
speaking jewellery should not be worn with our school uni-
form. If the children have pierced ears, small studs are the
safest earrings to wear. If the girls choose to wear bows in
their hair we ask that these be in school colours.
Valuable Items and small toys: School is not a place for valuable or treasured items.
The children are discouraged from bringing items of value to school as they may get broken or lost caus-
ing distress.
Software: Thank you to everyone who has already paid for the software package, which includes
Reading Eggs, Mathletics and Soundwaves. These programs are used daily in the classroom so it is im-
portant that the payment for this package is made as soon as possible.
Parent-Teacher Interviews: Information has been sent home this week regarding parent teacher
interviews. Timeslots between 2-7pm are filling quickly so if you require an interview please return the
form as soon as possible. If for any reason you cannot attend on this day, please liaise with your child’s
teacher to arrange a mutually convenient alternate day/time.

lenge last Friday. We look forward to seeing the results this week! I know lots of
Stage 2 children are practising their tables to improve their recall. Each Friday they
are given 20 sums to do within a minute.
The 20 sums are made up of 5 multiplication, 5 division, 5 addition and 5 subtrac-
tion.
If it is the 2 times table being done that week , the division will be by 2, the addition will be adding 2 to a
number and the subtraction taking 2 away.
For the next three weeks the tables to learn are:
Year 3 X 10
Year 4 X 4
Keep practising Stage 2!

placement and groupings are flexible and movement between groups will occur at any time when
necessary. Should you have any questions about maths groups please do not hesitate to contact your

Student leadership roles:
Congratulations to all of the Stage 3 students who received their leadership badges at our 3-6 assembly
on Monday 25th February. It was wonderful to see our school house captains and vice-captains, SRC
representatives and library monitors accept their badges in front of their peers and pledge to lead by
example by encouraging fair play and sportsmanship, support their peers and speak on behalf of
students during SRC meetings to make our school an even better place for all students. Each of these
roles come with great responsibility and we know each of these students will do a wonderful job
representing our school.

Penrith City Children’s Choir 2019 Activities
Project I Singing Day
Sunday 17 March, 3.00pm – 5.30pm
Join us for an exuberant afternoon of song. The hilarious ‘Out beyond the black stump’ where ‘the moz-
zies roam in herds’ is by Australian composer Stephen Leek. There’s a rollicking arrangement of Ameri-
can folk tunes in ‘Charlotte Town’. Plus, the energetic song and dance from the Torres Strait ‘Sesere
eeye’. We develop vocal technique, musicianship and part-singing skills in an encouraging and joyful
learning environment supported by experienced adult mentors. A great introductory ‘taster’ for new mem-
bers. Friends and family are invited to attend an informal performance at the end of the workshop.
Project II ‘Wai Bamba’
Sundays 5 and 19 May, 3.00 – 5.00pm
A chance to sing and play an array of percussion instruments kindly donated to Penrith City Children’s
Choir by music teacher and chorister Christine Tapsell-Timbs. We will explore African rhythms in the cel-
ebratory song ‘Wai Bamba’, build an atmospheric soundscape to the delicate Japanese folksong
‘Sakura’, then sway to the West Indian lilt of ‘Tinga Layo’. No instrumental experience necessary.
Friends and family are invited to attend an informal performance at the end of the final workshop.
Project III Ancient Echoes
Sundays 1, 15 and 22 September, 3.00 – 5.00pm with a performance at
4.00pm on the final workshop with special guests The February Consort.
A very special project culminating in a joint performance with the recorder ensemble ‘The February Con-
sort’. Connecting to times long past is the magical ‘Myoon-myoon’ by Stephen Leek, the mysterious
‘Lady dressed in white’ by Lin Marsh and the powerful spiritual ‘Joshua fought the battle’ for choir and
recorders.
Project IV The Family Christmas Concert
Workshops Sundays 10 and 24 November, 3.00 – 5.00pm
Combined rehearsals Wednesday 27 and Friday 29 November, 7.30pm – to be advised
PUBLIC CONCERT Sunday 1 December, 3.00pm with Penrith City Choir, Penrith Symphony Or-
chestra and Penrith Youth Orchestra at The Joan.
A thrilling opportunity to sing with Penrith Symphony Orchestra in the best concert of the festive season.
The children’s choir will feature in that iconic song ‘Walking in the air’ with harp accompaniment. Other
performers include Penrith City Choir and Penrith Youth Orchestra plus local singing sensation Brittanie
Shipway. With a special guest from the North Pole rumoured to make an appearance, this will be fun for
the whole family.
