  • Problems faced by the youthtodayPUBLISHED FEB 09, 2008 12:00AM

The youth of today has been widely outclassed; they do notconsider themselves to be too young to be pampered, andthey are not supposed to be old enough to takeresponsibility on their own shoulders.

The main problem is the communication gap betweenthem and their elders the former believing themselvesto be old enough for taking their own decisions for matterspersonal or social while the latter just refuse to hand overthis responsibility to them. This leads to temperamentsrising high more often.

The most common problem a person faces at this phase oflife is peer pressure. They are pressures by either dares orthreats into doing what one would rather avoid. Somepeople are naturally competitive and they strive to act inways that could help settle their 'image' either to impressor intimidate others. This can be seen in their disobedienceof their elders who try to advice them through experienceswhich these young ones lack at the moment but faildismally.

Six out of every 10 such people are usually short-temperedand rude in their response. Many hesitate in taking theirparents' advice in different matters, particularly in issueswhich according to them are very modest and thus they

  • which according to them are very modest and thus theyland up in taking up the wrong decision. Today's youth ismore outgoing, more extravagant in their desires and lessinto their studies; they are stubbornly leading a luxuriouslifestyle and know less of the benefits of hard workexcluding fitness.

However, this article is not Problems faced by the youthtoday

only about the elite, the privileged. In our society, unfortunately, there are many young people who cannoteven afford to go to school. They remain illiterate and areshamefully and mercilessly forced into child labour whenthey ought to be learning and enjoying life like the rest oftheir age group. A number of them face problems andsome even lost their life or limb, doing jobs which aremeant for older people.

Sometimes, racism and/or discrimination against people ofopposite gender, caste, creed or religion makes them avictim of emotional disorder. They have low self-esteemand can easily be overridden by views of other people. Thisis in special reference to the general concept of maledomination over women who are taken for granted inrespect to their specialisation at house chores. Becausetoday's children are less concerned with politics, they arevulnerable to be used in anti-social activities with falsecharms that lure them into active participation. They arekept hostages for ransom and/or turned into militants inthe name of religion as displayed by the Lal Masjidincident.

  • Last but not the least, are the so-called love issues whichhave dramatically been on rise since the past few years butend mostly in the destruction of lives either by suicide orby eternal misery which renders them mentally unfit. Thedepression overpowers them and very few are able to copeup with it as another aspect of the ups and downs of life.

We should remember that the more we remain down-to-earth and enjoy life as it is meant to be the better we stayfor the rest of our lives. One should always remain aware ofwhere his actions can lead him to in future. Though it isbelieved that everything is predestined in our lives, we stillare responsible for our deeds since God has provided us abrain to think before doing anything.

It can be justly said that this age is the most difficult partof life and each and every one of us have to pass The mostcommon problem a person faces at this phase of life is peerpressure. through it. Man is said to be learning throughout his life. Itis not that one cannot recover later in life but by then itmay be too late as time can prove to be the worst opponentin any fight.

Therefore, we should take note of our slip-ups when thereis time left and even if failure approaches us, overcome itwith complete domination as John Keats once said Don'tbe discouraged by a failure. It can be a positive experience.

  • Failure is, in a sense, the highway to success, in as much asevery discovery of what is false leads us to seek earnestlyafter what is true, and every fresh experience points outsome form of error which we shall afterwards carefullyavoid.
