In Term 3, children enhanced their appreciation for Singapore by celebrating the nation’s 53rd birthday
as well as getting to know Singapore’s uniqueness. In line with this year’s National Day theme which is
“We Are Singapore”, children participated in various activities with their classmates to recognize the
importance of sharing a common identity and a common Singaporean spirit. Integrating the theme of
‘Sports’ into this, children learned what it meant to work together with their peers in relay races – to
share a common goal despite their diverse cultural background and differences.
Kidz Meadow @ Jurong West also collaborated with two schools to enhance the quality of experiences
for the childrren. A Malay cultural workshop was conducted by Swiss Cottage Secondary School and a
Read for Books programme was conducted by Lakeside Primary School’s Student Care Centre. We were
excited as it provided opportunities for children to interact and learn from students who are much older
than them! In addition to this literacy experience by the students, children also borrowed some books
from Mini-Molly, a mobile library by National Library Board. As we enter the final lap of the year in Term
4, let’s continue our partnership in the care and education of the children!
Warm Regards,
Ms Nurliyana

Food, glorious food! This pottery
programme served as a closure to the
Term’s topic on Food. Conducted by
facilitators from Da Vinci Education
Group, children walked through the
heritage of various cooking utensils
used in the olden days to current.
The children sculpted items such as
woks and pots, using clay. Their
functional creations were then brought
back to the pottery studio to be
glazed and fired up before being
returned to them.
Kidz Meadow @ Jurong West recognises
the importance of detecting vision
abnormalities from young as well as
creating awareness on healthy eye care
habits. Hence, there was a collaboration
with I-Vision Optometry, where the
children were given complimentary vision
screening using an up-to-date medical
device. Reports were then generated to
update parents on the status of their
children’s vision for their follow up.
Parents were also given an opportunity
to attend a talk by them on healthy eye
care habits.

It was an exciting and enriching
collaboration with the Malay Dance
Group from Swiss Cottage Secondary
School for an inaugural Malay Cultural &
Dance Workshop on 29 June! Over 20
students came to the centre to conduct
this workshop for the K1 & K2 children.
The children were delighted to watch a
Malay Dance performance by them and
learned basic choreography as they
danced to a Hari Raya song alongside
the Malay Dance Group. The children
also participated in a colouring
competition where the winners walked
away with prizes!
The other children were not left out too,
as each of them received a goodie bag
specially prepared by the Malay Dance
Group. Kidz Meadow @ Jurong West
would like to thank Swiss Cottage
Secondary School for this meaningful
workshop!

Children, parents and staff of Kidz Meadow @ Jurong West were
in colourful traditional Malay costumes on 29 June as they
celebrated Hari Raya Aidilfitri! There was a wide array of festive
goodies for the children to try including the Malay traditional
dish, “lontong”, during their lunch. During the celebration, children
and parents challenged one another in games as well as in a
dancing competition! The children put up performances too,
where they danced to Hari Raya songs with their classmates.
On 15 July, K1 and K2 children were invited by the Pioneer RC
Zone 6 to perform during the community Hari Raya Celebration. It
was an awesome experience for the children. Thank you parents
and families, for the positive response!

Molly Bus, the mobile library from
National Library Board, visited the
centre on 1 August. The children were
eager to board the mobile library and
browse the books! Some children who
had brought along their library
membership cards had the opportunity
to have a hands-on attempt in using
the loan system to borrow some books.
This visit hopes to inculcate the love of
books in children from young, and
encourage them to visit the library to
loan books.
Would you like to be a storyteller? The
students from Lakeside Primary School’s
Student Care Centre visited the K1 &
K2 children for a buddy reading event
on 18 July 2018. This event was part of
the Read for Books 2018 Campaign
which the Student Care Centre was
participating in. As part of the National
Reading Movement campaign by the
National Library Board (NLB), Read for
Books 2018 is a book charity drive
which aims to give out 4,250 books. For
every 10 people who read for 15
minutes, 1 book will be donated to
their selected beneficiaries. Read to
show you care!

“Pick Up Pom Poms”
This activity is about
picking up pom poms using pegs, with the aim of
honing children’s fine motor skill. It was not easy but the children persevere using the pegs to transfer the pom poms into the cups.
This activity also
encouraged children to share resources with their peers, and practise turn-taking as they used the
pegs.

Outdoor play is fun
especially when
playing with friends!
N2A Coral learned the
values of sportsmanship
and were also able to
follow rules.
Learning is not limited to within the four corners
of our classroom! Take a look at N2B Seashell
learning about the different sizes and shapes of
leaves by searching for leaves in the outdoor
environment.

Fundamental movement skills can be learned in various ways and it is
always fun when games are involved! Children played a game called
“Hopping Tug of War” to develop and explore ways of hopping.
Learning about different pronouns
through actions helps the children to
understand better! They learned about
“You”, “I”, “We”, “He”, “She” and “They” by
pointing their fingers or moving around
according to the pronouns. Children also
played a treasure hunt game where they
worked together as a team to find the
different pronouns that were pasted
around the classroom.
