Understanding Guides

Publisher has many types of layout guides to help you position objects in a publication. Each template has guides already in place, depending on the type of template you are using, including margin guides, grid guides, column guides, row guides, and baseline guides.

You can create your own guides by simply placing the pointer over the horizontal or vertical ruler.

Entering Text

Using Publisher templates, you can add text directly into text boxes or panel headings. A panel heading is the area provided for the title or heading of a project or section of a project.

The page navigator, located in the lower-left side of the window, allows you to move quickly from one page to another when you are adding text to your publication.

Working with Objects

Text boxes, shapes, clip art, and pictures are all objects. When you right-click an object, a menu appears that includes the “Format” command.

The Arrange menu has many important features for manipulating objects. For example, using the Align and Distribute commands, you can align objects by their tops, bottoms, centers, and left or right sides.

You’ll find the Group, Ungroup, and Regroup commands on the Arrange menu.

In Publisher, you also have the ability to stack or layer items using the Order commands.
