Parras Middle School Summer Reading List

Over the summer, each student is strongly encouraged to read two or more books from their grade level list below. If students wish to get extra credit points, they are encouraged to complete a final book project on one of the books. This assignment is due Friday, September 2. Assignments completed after the Friday deadline will not be accepted. Students who complete this assignment will receive 10 extra credit points in their Language Arts class.

Extra Credit – 10 points

Write a new ending (must be one to two pages typed in the same style and point of view of story).

Write a critique which responds to two of the following questions:

1.) Choose and cite an important passage from the book and reflect on its meaning and connection to the story’s theme.

2.) Discuss the behavior of one of the characters and provide textual support from the book.

3.) Discuss why you would or would not recommend the book.

Write a diary from any character’s point of view in the story; must include four separate date entries.

Create a cartoon or a travel brochure that depicts the basic elements of plot (basic situation, conflict, rising action, climax, resolution).
