AES is a cross agency collaborative effort between the U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and other federal agencies to allow for exports to be reported electronically. Benefits of electronic reporting:
• Improves trade statistics • Improves compliance for export community • Response messages returned within minutes • Reduces reporting burden
AES Background
• Automated Export System (AES) is the only system that collects U.S. export data electronically
• Joint venture between the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), other government agencies and trade community
• Filing of Electronic Export Information (EEI) to the AES is mandated
39
Automated Export System Uses
• CBP uses AES to verify shipments directly at the port.
• BIS uses AES to track export license transactions and
to validate end users.
• State Department uses AES to track export license
transactions and to automatically decrement values
on some license types.
