Montreux Clean Beach Project IIMonthly Activity Report, Nov 23, 2015 - Dec 24, 2015
Montreux Clean Beach Project II (MCBPII) removes and inventories macro-plastic pollution from the shoreline of Lake Léman.
The data collected can be used to evaluate current litter mitigation strategies. MCBPII is designed and inspired by the citizen science method.
We have reached out to the major universities in the region (UNIL and EPFL), researchers internationally and state and local officials.

590 pieces of litter were removed in 6.5 hours over the course of four surveys. Three categories make up 50 % of the items found:1. Pieces of foam (polystyrene)2. Small bits of plastic3. Bottles and/or broken glass. The Baye de Clarens has a litter density range of .5 to .08 Pcs/m², the lowest of the four sites. However, the Baye de Clarens is the largest survey site at around 500m² and access to ½ of the beach requires either scaling the lake wall or jumping across the river. The restructuring of the river bed upstream has started, the wa-ter is gray to brown in color and leaves a fine sediment on the beach and at low points. Like the Veveyse, foamis the most common item found.
