Miss Bell’s Note
Happy Mother’s Day to all moms! I hope you had a
lovely Mother’s Day – a well deserved day of
recognition for all you do.
SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium)
We are in the midst of state testing. It is extremely
important to be on time and present everyday. We will
be reviewing concepts and taking/discussing practice
tests over the next two weeks. These review/test
practice experiences cannot be made up and are as
important as being present on the days we are actually
testing. Thanks for your extra support to help our
students do their best. We take official tests on
Wed/Thurs. of this week and on Tues/Wed/Fri. of the
following week.

Volunteer Tea Please join us on Thursday, May 19th from 1:30 – 2:15
in the MPR as we celebrate our volunteers! We thank
you for all you do and I would love to see you there. I
will attach the invitation to this newsletter.
Agenda Reminders
Please check your child’s homework and agenda
everyday to ensure assignments are complete. Please
also sign their agenda every Friday to indicate you have
seen their behavior and homework completion for the
week. Highlighted items were not completed.
Math We are finishing up our chapter on area and perimeter
tomorrow and taking our test on Wednesday. After
that, I will be doing a few crash course lessons on
concepts we have not yet learned and a lot of review.
Reading
We are reading, By the Great Horn Spoon! Please do
not read ahead in this novel – I know it’s hard not to.
As with prior novels, students will be responsible for
their Reading Response Journals. I encourage you to
read the chapters we have read in class at home with
your child – you will LOVE this book. It is so clever!
We should test on chapters 6-10 this Friday.
Spelling Please review “Missed Words” with your child each
week as many of the words they have missed will spiral
back into future spelling tests. Students have this list
that they add to in their homework folder.
Science
Your child will be bringing home the ecosystem they
created in class this week. Be sure to ask them about:
1) Biotic and abiotic factors, 2) Evidence of the water
cycle, 3) Evidence of photosynthesis, and 4) The
food/energy chain. Then you might persuade them to
free their isopod into the big world. ☺ With testing, I
am unsure as to when we will conclude this unit and
test on it. It will be sometime next week at the earliest.
Library
Our library is closing for the year this week. I believe
we can keep our books through state testing, but please
start sending in any stragglers you might find at home.
