Minor atoms champs in BarrieThe Oakville minor atom A Rangers went

undefeated in five games to win the champi-onship at the recent Canadian Tire Classichockey tournament in Barrie.

The Rangers defeated the Barrie Colts 5-2 in the gold-medal game, Oakville’s secondwin over the tournament host. The Rangersdefeated Barrie 4-3 in round-robin play,where they added a 5-0 win over theHamilton Cyclones and a 2-2 tie againstOwen Sound.

The Rangers whipped the St. Thomas Jr.Stars 7-2 in the semifinals.

Goalies Kieran Drover and ChristianSbaraglia combined to allow only nine goalsduring the tournament.

Offensively, the Rangers were led byAnthony Tabak (seven goals), Curtis Blakely(four goals, four assists), John Franco-Ionno(two goals, four assists), Cooper Elliott (fourgoals, one assist) and Jack Morris (threegoals, one assist). Jodh Dhillon, CurtisGoddard and Alexandre Moreau also foundthe net.

Robbie Gauthier, Tristan Kerec, RyneThacker and Ryan Eadie each recorded twoassists during the tournament. NoahChurch, Russell Sands and Ben Dohertycontributed to the Rangers’ strong defensiveshowing.

Jamie Church, David Kerec and PhilIonno coach the Rangers, and PeterSbaraglia is the trainer.

Solberg Snipers golden in London

Rallying from behind in their last twogames, the Oakville minor peewee SolbergSnipers won gold at the Jayden ElmoreMemorial Tournament in London earlierthis month.

The Snipers overcame a 3-0 deficit in thesemifinals to defeat Ajax 4-3 in overtime,then scored five unanswered goals to erase a2-0 Burlington second-period lead and winthe championship game 5-2.

Members of the team are Garrett Broad,Ryan Moorse, Mark Romano, Kyle Krebs,Adam Perruzza, Jacob Ristivojevic, ThomasNewman, Jack Turchet, Matthew Nielsen,Taylor Marcos, Chris Ivankovic, NathanDushnisky, Vasily Fedotov, MattDigiantommaso, Sheldon Nunes and LiamRobertson.

John Stevenson, Darcy Moore and ChrisO’Donovan coach the Snipers, and DavidNielsen is the trainer.

Irish wins Oakville final in Alliston

The Oakville minor bantam selectFighting Irish won its division at the thirdannual Bradford Bulldogs WeekendHockey Tournament earlier this month inAlliston.

The Irish defeated its hometown rivals,the Rebels, 1-0 in an all-Oakville final.Robbie Folino notched the Irish marker asthe team avenged a 2-1 loss to the Rebels inround-robin play.

In the Irish’s other games, the teamdoubled up the Barrie Red Wings 4-2 anddowned Erindale 5-3. Daniel Rasquinscored twice and Philip Reinders andBrandon Wood added singles in the victo-ry over Barrie, with Rasquin (two),Morgan McCready, Wood and Folinonotching markers against Erindale. Folinohad the Irish’s lone goal in the loss to theRebels.

Other members of the Fighting Irish areMatthew Cromie, Evan Scott, Brad Currier,Matthew Reesor, Tyler McCluskey, CharlesSparling, Nathan Gillingham, LoganTownsend, Kanen MacLellan, MatthewKozdras and George Jeffrey.
