Join us, 50 years on, as we watch dramatic highlights and relive the day that England won the World Cup for the first and only time on Saturday 30 July 1966. As wild celebrations erupted inside Wembley Stadium and people poured onto the streets, it seemed there was just one man able to remain calm. Sir Alf Ramsey, the mastermind behind the nation’s greatest-ever sporting triumph, raised a warm smile but, remarkably, kept his composure as well as his seat on the bench.

We explore 1966 and all that with hat-trick hero Sir Geoff Hurst as he recalls the leadership and management techniques of the man who won the World Cup. Sir Alf, aka ‘The General’, possessed an astute football brain, was flexible with his tactics and as a technician was well ahead of his time. About Sir Geoff HurstJust five months into his international career, Sir Geoff Hurst made sporting history when he became the first and, so far, the only player to score a hat-trick in the World Cup final. He won 49 caps and scored 24 goals. He played for West Ham, Stoke City and West Brom and also managed Chelsea for two years from 1979-81 before leaving football to forge a successful career in the insurance business until his retirement in 2002.

The rapid growth of our digital world has brought huge advantages but we are also wary of its impact on our lives.
