A PROCLAMATION ON 1HE FLAG AND EMBLEM OFTHE FEDERAL DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ETHIOPIA

WHEREAS, sub-Articles (1) and (2) of Article 3 of theConstitution stipulate on the Flag and Emblem of the FederalDemocratic Republic of Ethiopia;

WHEREAS, in consequence thereof, it is found neces-sary to promulgate a law providing for particulars on the Flagand the Emblem;

NOW, THEREFORE, in accordance with Article 55 (1)of the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic ofEthiopia, it is hereby proclaimed as follows:

PART ONEGeneral

1. Short Title

11. Timeof Hoistingand Lowering the Flag

1) Withoiltprejudiceto sub-Articles(2) and(3)of thisArticle, the Flag shall be hoisted at 6 a.m. andloweredat6 p.m. at officesspecifiedin Article7(l)of this Proclamation and on ships and boats.However,militaryunits in regions where a state ofemergencyhasbeendeclaredneednotcomplywiththe regular hoisting and lowering time until thesituationchanges.

2) In schools,the Flag shallbe hoisted in the morningbefore claSsesbegin artd lowered after the day'sclassesend; hoisting and loweringshall take placeat'a processionceremonyof students.

3) TheFlagshallbe hoistedon theeve and loweredonthe morrowof public holidays.
