Couxtesy of T he John Hancock M utual Life Insuiance Co.
Where he walked̂ freedom grew...
Stubborn Sam Adams had just one idea — that AiHerica should be free. He devoted his life to it.
Look! He told all of us, over and over again . . . you. are perfectly fit to govern yourselves.
We listened to Sam and changed our mind about the divine right of kings. Tirelessly he exposed tyranny and corruption . . . ai^ued with the timid . . . oi'ganized tlie machinery of liberty.
He showed us how "committees of correspondence*' in each colony could keep everyone informed on how the fight for freedom was going. And when Sam’s express riders came thundering down the seaboard with news of how Boston harbor had been turned into a teapot, Connecticut farmers, New York
mechanics and New Jersey merchants caught Sam’s independence fever.
No wonder King George quickly promised a full pardon to every American patriot under arms . . . "excepting only John Hancock and Samuel Adams.”
For even across the ocean, it was clear that stubborn Sam Adams — like his fiiend Hancock — knew what he wanted . . . Freedom for America.
Today we know that the challenge to freedom goes on. We know that you can’t buy freedom; you can only invest in it. As millions of Americans are doing with their regular purchase of United States Savings Bonds. Buy U. S. Savings Bonds where you bank or work.
The U. S. Govetnment does not pay for this adv«rtlsetnent. It ia presented a« a public aaivice in cooperation with the Treasury Deparlmenti
