GOD LOVES
A CHEERFUL GIVER
2 Corinthians 9:6-7
My Dear Parishioners and Friends, What joy, and not a little relief, to be celebrating our patron's feast back in our rebuilt and rededicated sacred space. This year, St. Theresa’s celebration brings me a sense of deeper joy and increased gratitude for all of you gathered here, parishioners and friends. Fourteen years among you seems such a good and long time, because I have never before had the pleasure of living in one place for so long during my adult years. Looking at our time together another way, it is more than a succession of days, months and years. We have and have had, so many opportuni-ties to meet, to pray, to grieve, to give thanks, to plan and dream about the future together. What blessings have already been showered upon us, what graces await us? St. Theresa herself knew what it was she wanted from a very young age: to live her life in an enclosed Carmelite monastery, and to give her life entirely to God. Who could have known that a very young French girl born in the latter years of the nineteenth century would be remembered with such deep love and affection over one hundred years later. Many of you love to tell me of how you come from schools and parishes named in honor of our same St. Theresa, both here in the United States and throughout the world. Who would have thought this possible? So many of us have such affection for this young woman, total-ly desirous of fulfilling God's will. She once went to Rome and asked the Pope to forgo the age restriction for entering a con-vent. She is very spirited and determined, desiring (as she fa-mously wrote) to spend her heaven doing good on earth. Like her Creator and Redeeming God, she is still active in search of hearts directed toward love, truth, and beauty of hearts directed to God. Who would have thought that a life lived prayerfully and quietly among her sisters in religion, within the walls of the mon-astery, would be patroness of the missions! Like St. Theresa of Lisieux, I hope that we together continue to grow in love and prayer, and that with St. Theresa, we might do all that we do in love. So doing, we bring others to new life in Jesus. With love and blessings, Fr. Phil Pastor
