introduction
“Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines
practiced every day; while failure is simply a few errors
in judgment, repeated every day.
It is the accumulative weight of our disciplines
and our judgments that leads us to
either fortune or failure.”
~ Jim Rohn
Simple …but not easy
When I’m interviewing prospective coaching clients, it’s amazing how often I will hear
them say the following words…
“It’s not like I want to make a million dollars, I just want to get ahead”.
This short but powerful eBook is going to teach you four simple steps that you
can begin using TODAY to get ahead in your business, and in your life.
These proven strategies are working for small business owners, moms, salespeople,
and entrepreneurs, and they will absolutely work for YOU!
Your only responsibility is to commit to action, and then follow through.
• Understand: As you read through the concepts described, seek to understand
not only the philosophy being taught, but also how these ideas can fit within your
personal daily routines.
• Adopt: After considering this content and agree with the value of the wisdom
within, pledge to adopt one (or all) of the ideas for a minimum of 56 consecutive
days. You’ll want to embed these new habits for good!
• Act: Beginning tomorrow, implement these strategies with confidence, conviction,
and commitment to staying the course. If you get off track on any day, simply
start a new 56 day cycle on the following day.
CHAPTER ONE
dynamic
statements
of truth
I tried affirmations …they didn’t work for me
Have those words ever come out of your mouth? If so, you’re not alone.
In the wide world of self-help and personal development, it’s often recommended
that you should endlessly repeat positive words and phrases in an effort to alter
your so-called limited thinking.
Better advice would be to accept and recognize that negative thoughts will
naturally occur throughout your lifetime.
You cannot eliminate all negative thoughts, but you can control how long they
stick around.
Instead of challenging or fighting with them, you will instead concentrate on
aligning your thoughts with your personal core values, and then shift your focus
toward building a repeatable series of what I call “dynamic statements of truth”
to support those values.
To create your own dynamic statements of truth, follow the instructions on the
next page.
Make a list of your top 5 values.
(For a great list of values to get you started,
visit my web page at
www.coachshoop.com/values)
Create an affirmative and truthful
statement that incorporates one or more of
your core values. Add several energetic and
powerful words that move you.
Write out your dynamic statement of truth
on a post-it note or index card and put it in a
place that you can refer to it every day,
multiple times per day.
“I am whole, perfect,
strong, powerful,
loving, harmonious,
happy, and prosperous!”
Each morning upon waking, and in the evening just before bed, I will
repeat my Dynamic Statements of Truth with various levels of intensity
and emotion.
Experiment with your own pace, volume, and intensity in order to find the
right combination that resonates. You should feel a positive shift in your
mood and energy, and be sure to smile as you repeat your statements.
In the beginning, repetition and frequency will be required until your new
statements become automatic and permanently part of your thinking.
Start with one, then create others!

The words that You consistently tell Your Self are having a
measurable and profound impact on your life and your results.
The best part is that YOU get to decide which words to use.
“ “Whether true or false, what is said about men
often has as much influence on their lives, and
particularly on their destinies, as what they do.”
- Victor Hugo, Les Miserables
CHAPTER TWO
the
time
vacuum
I just wish… there were more hours in the day
Face it. No matter how you slice it, your day will never have more hours.
But don’t be discouraged. I’m going to show you how to find a minimum of one
additional productive hour each day, and eliminate the things that attempt to suck the
life out of you and your opportunity to succeed.
Yet in order for this tip to work for you, you’re going to have to get completely
honest with yourself. Completely… No more lies.
Step One – Identify at least one “less than productive” activity that you engage in on
a daily basis. Some examples might be incessantly checking your email, too much
logging into FaceBook, or making random phone calls.
Step Two – Track how much time you spend on those activities tomorrow.
Step Three – Replace those minutes with your pre-defined highest priority activity
(which we’ll discuss in the next strategy).
Step Four – If you’re already among the super-productive, commit to going to bed 30
minutes earlier for the next few nights, and waking up 30 minutes earlier for the next
few tomorrows. In that “extra” waking hour that you create, decide to engage only on
your highest priority activities.
The words that You tell You are having a measurable and profound impact. The best part is that you get to decide which words to use.
In traditional goal setting, people tend to look at things as
“New Year’s resolutions” or “This year’s goals”.
Early Bird?
Night Owl?
Mid-Day Driver?
Study and pay close attention to your
body’s natural rhythm, and then
schedule your highest priority tasks in
the appropriate segment of each day
to boost productivity.
You can strategically use new-found
knowledge and awareness to create
a schedule that works FOR you, not
against you. Notice when you tend to
be most effective.
In recent years scientists have
identified a “wake up” gene that is
believed to be responsible for
activating the body’s biological clock
in the morning.

CHAPTER THREE
can you
spare a
quarter?
8% of people actually achieve their
New Year’s Resolutions
“I promise, this year will be different.” (Uh-huh. Right… Sure it will!)
So why exactly is it so challenging to keep our resolutions and commitments to
ourselves, or to others? We all know that the changes will be good for us, right?
I can sum it up for you in a single, annoying word. Accountability.
Very few people would ever admit that they actually LIKE that word, and more
often than not, they’ll AVOID even saying the word out loud!
This year, I want you to take a slightly different approach.
1) Choose one or two high-priority goals or initiatives that you want to
accomplish within the first quarter. (You’ll repeat this step every subsequent
quarter.)
2) Identify a series of smaller steps required to move each of those goals
forward, regardless of the size or magnitude of the steps.
3) Every day, determine your highest priority activities needed for each step,
and invest the majority of your time on only those tasks.
4) Write them down, and get to work on them!
The words that You tell You are having a measurable and profound impact. The best part is that you get to decide which words to use.
In traditional goal setting, people tend to look at things as
“New Year’s resolutions” or “This year’s goals”.
Instead, divide your year into 4 separate quarters, and from
today forward, begin looking at your new objectives in highly-
focused, 90-day blocks of time.
Any available minutes and hours that you create by eliminating
time-sucking activities are to be replaced only with actions that
move you toward the accomplishment of your Quarterly goals.
To maximize the odds of achieving the success you seek,
find someone to hold you accountable to your plan, and be
sure to keep your word. (Yes, we can help you with that!)
CHAPTER FOUR
books
and
bookends
everything you need can be found in a book
One of my mentors says, “You’ll be the same person in five years as you are today,
except for the books you read and the people you meet.” His name was Charlie
Jones, and he understood that readers are leaders.
It is my belief that all the information that ever was (or ever will be) is already present
and available. Our responsibility is to figure out where it is hidden and then use our
resourcefulness to tap into it.
This year, make the following commitments;
1) Decide that you will read a minimum of one book each quarter in your chosen
field or endeavor. (Sales, leadership, entrepreneurship, etc.)
2) Determine a window of time each day in which you will read a minimum number
of pages, based upon the length of the book you choose. Most business books
are under 250 pages, so to complete it in 90 days you’d need to read a minimum
of 3 pages per day. Anyone can do that, right?
3) Dedicate yourself to becoming known as someone who gets things done, by
acquiring knowledge through reading, and converting that knowledge into know-
how by DOING the stuff you read about.
What are your non-negotiable activities?
In Darren Hardy’s excellent business book, The Compound Effect, he discusses the idea
of creating “bookends” on your day. These are a series of ideas, strategies, or activities
that you do at the beginning and end of every day. Their completion is non-negotiable.
You do them even when you don’t feel like doing them.
Create your own list of non-negotiable activities and
establish both an AM and PM routine that includes them.
