Welcome!! Before and After School
General NewsWe would like to welcome back all our families who are returning to
Rosethorn Satellite Child Care, and a warm welcome to all of our new families who are joining us for their first time. Here at Rosethorn we are forever changing. Our motto is that Change is GOOD we guess!! Sixteen years ago we started with 15 children caring for school age children from grades one-five. Two years later we incorporated full day kindergarten to include our four and five year olds. Our enrollment grew to 120 children.
With the Ministry start up of Full Day Kindergarten here in Ontario, and now here at Rosethorn, we needed to get ready for many changes. Building two new classrooms and essentially a new wing to the school, was no easy task. We are extremely proud of how far we have come to get this program off the ground. Kindergarten Care at Rosethorn is a non-profit organization with forty families enrolled in the program, a Board of Directors, and 6 staff members. Yosi has taken off the hat of Kindergarten Teacher/Supervisor, and become a full time Supervisor for both Rosethorn Satellite and KCR. We hope to be occupying our designated space for our Kinders in the next few weeks. The plans for the playground are beautiful and we cannot wait to be able to play and explore our new outdoor space. Last, but not least, thank you for your continued patience and understanding while we undergo so many changes, and delays . We trust that you will witness our commitment to your children each and every day. Thank you to all of our families who continue to give us an opportunity to make a positive difference in your child’s life. If you have any question or concerns please do not hesitate to ask myself, Yosi or any of our staff who are more than anxious to fulfill your families’ needs. Kim Preston

General News Continued... P.A. Day
Please be aware that Friday October 11th is a P.A. Day. We will be open on that day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Please be advised that there is an additional cost of $25.00 per child for the PA Day. Parents must email our centre or speak to your child’s afterschool teacher to inform us if your child will be attending.
Extra Clothes
It is an expectation that all children are independent using
the washroom. That being said, accidents do happen so please send a change of clothes in a plastic bag, labeled with their name. These clothes should be left in your child’s knapsack.
It’s head Lice Season!
Head-lice incidence peaks shortly after school starts, particularly among younger children.
“These tiny head invaders are most often found in preschoolers and elementary-school students because children that age tend to play together and have close head-to-head contact in closed spaces, which makes transmission easier,” says Bernard Cohen, M. D., a pediatric dermatologist at the Children’s Center.Try using a shampoo containing tea tree oil or add a drop of tea oil to your
child’s existing shampoo.

To help children develop new interests and skills, the after school program will be introducing a ‘Football House League’, in
addition to our regular program. Football is more than just running, throwing and kicking. The children will put their teamwork skills to the test for the month of October. We will be practicing and playing games during outdoor times to build upon skills. To foster teamwork and a health atmosphere of sportsmanship, scores will be kept of the games and a standings system will be placed in the gym. At the end of the month there will be a playoff round and a championship game. The top two teams will be playing for the Excellence Bowl.
More information will be given to parents when we get closer to the championship game. Until them:
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBAAAAAALLLL!!!
If you have any questions please feel free to speech with any staff member.
Future Plans
It is our objective to get our pre-school program up and running as soon as we can. We are looking for more families who require care for their
child for up to 3 hours/day in the morning. We will use the portable for these children in the morning and school age children will occupy the space after school. If you know of
anyone who would be interested in our program, please send them our way.

NewsAutumn greetings to all the
parents of grade one and two students! We cannot believe September is already past us when it seems like just yesterday that we met our group on the first day back to school! Respect and good sportsmanship were key words we learned on the first week; on the second week, we welcomed fall through various activities; on the third week, we continued to celebrate autumn. The students have also enjoyed learning yoga from Ms. Kayce through fun games. It is our hope and purpose that the afterschool experience for the children will be one that is bursting with fun and learning at the same time. We hope you will not hesitate to speak to us if you have any concerns or ideas for our program. Just a reminder to continue to sign out your children when your child leaves the centre, at the round table in front of the gym.
Thank you and have a great October!

Grades 3, 4, 5 News
September has been a rock n rolling month for the 3, 4’S,
and 5’s. We have made a few changes in our groups and our teachers. The Eagles are with Miss Angela, the Lions are with Miss Katherine, The Bears are with Miss Roxanne and The Dolphins are with Mr. Paul. The children will be occupying the Library, gym, room 10 as well as the portable that was once occupied by the Kinders. The portable will allow the children to have the opportunity to take part in creative projects, sensory, science, and dramatic play. (Please refer to our board located at the parent sign out table for a complete rotation schedule.)
We are introducing a new program called “selfless acts”. Once a month we will be doing something to help give back to our community. For our current project children have been refurbishing Mrs. F’s kindergarten classrooms kitchen furniture. They have sanding down and repainting the pieces. The children have been very involved and are enjoying this project. In the future we plan on getting the children’s input on future projects.
We have been focusing on building new relationships and friendships. The children have been talking about Thanksgiving and Halloween the last week so our planning will be reflecting their interest. Looking forward to October! If you have
any questions please do no hesitate to speak with your child’s teacher. Thank You
HomeworkAt the beginning of our indoor
time, all children are asked if they have homework. We understand that you are balancing many activities and if we can simplify your evenings without homework, we are happy to help. Please mention to your teacher if you require extra days of homework, specific days etc. that would h elp manage the family dynamics for the evenings.

Ms. KimMy name is Kim Preston and I am the operator of both Rosethorn

In 1996, Rosethorn Junior School re-opened its doors and I started the before and after school program as a parent of two children who attended Rosethorn.
My son Robert, now 25 years old, attends graduate school at the University of Western in Actuarial Science. My daughter, now 20 years old, is in her third year of nursing at Villanova. I am very proud of their accomplishments and it all started right here at Rosethorn!

I have a wonderful little boy named Logan, who has started JK this year. I look forward to another wonderful year working with your children

Ms. AnnaHello. My name is Anna and this is my first year working at Kindergarten
Care at Rosethorn. I was born in Poland and moved to Canada with my family when I was 11 years old. Through my experience as an ESL student, I have overcome many obstacles which shaped me into the person that I am today. I completed my ECE diploma at Humber College and recently graduated from Teachers College. I have worked with children since year 2007. This is my passion and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I also have a strong interest in working with children with special needs and various developmental disabilities. I am currently volunteering at the Geneva Centre for Autism and tutoring a lovely Grade 4 student with Autism. I am constantly growing as a teacher and always greeting others with a smile on my face. I am thrilled to be working with such amazing co-workers and wonderful children!
Ms. MinaHello to all! My name is Mina Kim, and it is very nice to meet you all. I graduated from
the University of Western Ontario with degrees in Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education. I am so pleased to be joining Rosethorn this year as a Kindercare teacher. I fully appreciate the opportunity to grow as an educator, and to work with such wonderful team members and students. Aside from working at Rosethorn, I also work at a church as an organist and choral conductor, and have a small studio of private piano students. I look forward to developing an enriching and fulfilling program this year for your little ones!
Ms. LarysaMy name is Larysa Kalimbet. I am very happy to join the team of Rosethorn Before & After School Program as a Kindergarten teacher. I have four children 3 girls, 1 boy and a grandson that’s 2 years old. My philosophy is that children learn through play in a nurturing environment. In light of my education and working with students, I have acquired the knowledge and experience needed to become an effective educator and team player. I am excited to be part of Rosethorn Childcare and I look forward to a wonderful year building great relationships with staff, students and parents!
Ms. Roxanne
My name is Roxanne, and I am the mother of three well-rounded boys. I also work with children with exceptional needs. In my
spare time I support my children’s extra curricular activities, read and sew. My strength is my ability to problem solve and think outside the box. I believe no one should be placed in a box and we should all be allowed to express ourselves free from judgment. We should accept and celebrate our differences, as everyone has contributions to make. Because of this my mantra is,”it is what it is”. I believe we are all on this earth to learn valuable lessons from each other. This is how we will learn life’s secret. My weakness is time management, sometimes I tend to have too many projects on the go. I like to have fun and be spontaneous. I hope to be a positive light in your child’s life as we all grow and learn together. * Stay blessed*

Thank you to all of you who sent me off to teacher’s college last summer with such warm hearts. Thanks to you all, I have successfully finished the 8-month program and now am looking for a job. In the meantime, I’m glad to enjoy another year at Rosethorn, where I’m sure I’ll learn so many things from the wonderful students, colleagues and parents. I enjoy baking, scrapbooking, and jogging. By Paul Gauchi Sept. 2013
Mr. PaulHello, my name is Paul C. Gauchi. I am currently working with the grades 3, 4 and 5 children when I am not a supply
teacher. I have been an ECE teacher for a long time but I have also worked as a creative/graphic designer in other workplaces. The one thing you should know about me is that I love all art forms but especially drawing, writing and music.
I discovered that when I inspire others, they in turn inspire me. My creativity comes from the people around me. Hopefully, I can inspire others as they have inspired me. I enjoy working with children bringing an extra level of
creativity to them through many extra curricular activities or Clubs. Some of these clubs include computers, Art (such as drawing, painting sculpting) and sports. Please, feel free to ask me any questions and I look forward to a fun filled year.
