Frame Structural Differences
Conventional PV vs. BIPV Module
Presented by: I Made W. Nungrat. (PV Technologist)
Conventional PV ModuleStructure
Conventional PV ModuleMounting Style A - Direct-Mount (Bolts)
Modules must be mounted using the mounting holes located on the rear side of the long frame parts using appropriate size stainless steel bolts, nuts, and washers.

Conventional PV ModuleMounting Style B – Top-Down Clamps
Modules must be fastened using clamps applied to the top side of the long frame parts. A clamp holds two modules except for the clamps at the beginning and end of a module row.

Conventional PV ModuleMounting Style C – Frame Insertion
Module frames can be supported by insertion systems where the module frame rests inside of a channel. The channels are required to support the entire length of either both of the long frames or both of the short frames.

Main Differences
Conventional PV Modules• Using metal frame on each module• Non-direct attachment between module and main structure (bolts via
frame)
G2G BIPV Modules• Frameless• Commonly using sealant as glue and dampers• Direct attachment between modules and main structures
Mounting MethodConventional & BIPV
In order to install PV modules on top of the roof, we need to find suitable frame structure to support the modules.
