ABOUT US
Fin tubes are used for efficient cooling or heating is required. These
kind of extended surface tubes are used for the production of air-
cooled heat ex-changers condensers and even convection coils used in
furnaces. Fins are basically external and extended surfaces located or
inserted on outside of tubes and or pipes in order to increase the total
surface area and thermal efficiency, resulting in compact heat transfer
equipment. Operating temperature limits for the various types of fin-
tubes. Finned tubes are used in applications involving the transfer of
heat from a hot fluid to a colder fluid through a tube wall considering
three factors: (1) the temperature difference between the two fluids;
(2) the heat transfer coefficient between each of the fluids and the
tube wall; and (3) the surface area to which each fluid is exposed.
So the whole concept of finned tubes is to increase outside surface
area. The advantage of finned tubes is that by increasing overall heat
transfer rate, the total number of tubes required for a given
application is reduced, thereby also reducing overall equipment size
and decreasing the cost of the project. In many application cases, one
finned tube replaces six or more bare tubes at less than 1/3 the cost
and 1/4 the volume.
FIN TUBE
A helical groove 0.2-0.3 mm
(0.008-0.012 in) is ploughed
into the outside of the
base-tube wall such that
metal is only displaced, not
removed. The aluminium
fin is wound mechanically
into the groove under
tension, after which the
displace metal is rolled back
on each side of the fin to hold it in place. That is why this type is also
called embedded finned tube. The affective thickness of the base-tube
wall is the thickness beneath the groove. This type provides excellent
contact, both thermal and mechanical, between fin and groove.
Although the base tube metal is exposed to the atmosphere, tests
under server conditions showed that corrosion over a long period is
required before any bond weakness occurs. The G-type fin tube is
applicable to high temperature up to 750 F degree (450 C degree)

L-Foot Finned Tubes are
used for low-temperature
application. L-Foot tension
wound finned tubes
consist of thin aluminium
fin strip tightly wound
helically around the tube
circumference. A “foot” is
first formed on one side of
the fin strip (hence the name L-Foot). The strip is then wound tightly
around the tube, with the foot bearing on the tube outer surface. The
short horizontal limb of each L is in contact with the base tube surface
to cover it completely. Tension in the fin strip as it is wrapped around
the tube serves to seat the fin foot forcefully on the tube, and to hold
the fin firmly in place. L-footed finned tubing offers maximum heat
transfer at lower temperatures. The ends of the fins are stapled to
prohibit the aluminium fin from unraveling, and loosing the contact
between the fin foot and the tube. The L-type fin tube is applicable
where temperatures do not exceed about 300 F degree (149C degree).

fin, The fins are
manufactured from strip in
similar to the L type except
that the foot is preformed
into an accurately
controlled stepped double L
shape, rolled into a taper
which causes it to curl. LL-Foot Fin – Overlapped L is then continuously
helically wound under tension onto a tube. The fin hugs the tube with
one fin overlapping the foot of the next fin with complete coverage of
the base tube. This gives good corrosion protection to the tube. This
type of tube is often used as an alternative to the more expensive
extruded type fin in corrosive environments. The fins are secured at
each end in a similar way as L fin. The LL-type fin tube is applicable
where temperatures do not exceed about 350 F degree (177C degree).
LL-Foot Fin / Overlapped L
The KL type fin is commonly
known as knurled L fin. This
finned tube is basically
identical to the Wrap-On fin
and produced with a
combination of Wrap-On
and Embedded. The fins are
manufactured from strip
which is preformed into an
accurately controlled L shape similar to the L type, rolled into a taper
which causes it to curl. It is then continuously helically wound under
tension onto the tube. The fin hugs the tube. The base tube is knurled
by a rotating tool, then the foot of the fin is knurled into the knurling
of the base tube providing a tight bond with increased thermal
performance. Providing the correct fin strip is used the foot of one fin
butts up against the next fin and there is no gap between the fins. The
KL-type fin tube is applicable to high temperature up to 608 F degree
(320C degree)
