This catalogue covers high qualityon-the-machine and at-the-processFOUNDATION™ fieldbus H1 interconnectionproducts including cables, plug-inconnectors, junctions, terminatingresistors, bus tees, gender changersand elbow connectors made of differentmaterials and featuring a variety oftechnical specifications.
This catalogue contains descriptions ofthree different cables. These cable typesare called 490, 492 und 493. All threeversions are suited to indoor and outdoorapplications and a temperature range of-50...105 °C. They are oil and abrasionresistant. The specifications for fieldbus H1 physicalmedia are defined by IEC 1158-2 andthe ISA-S50.02 Part 2 Physical LayerStandards. The same standard is alsolisted in the FOUNDATION™ fieldbusspecifications under 31.25 kBit/s PhysicalLayer Profile FF-816-1.4.Cables 490 and 492 have 3 wires; cable492 is the heavy duty version. Thesecables have an earth wire in addition tothe data pair. The cable consists of two 0.8 mm2
(18 AWG) power/data pairs, one 0.8 mm2
(18 AWG) ground wire, and one 0.5 mm2
(20 AWG) drain wire. The colours (notspecified in FOUNDATION™ fieldbusstandards) are brown and blue for thepower/data pair: brown for the + voltage/+ data and blue for the - voltage/-data.
These two colours are consistent withinternational recommendations found inIEC 1158-2.The ground is a path for earth ground. It isused for I.S. (intrinsically safe) or N.I. (non-incendive) applications. The colour isgreen/yellow following IEC 1158-2recommendations. The drain is bare andin contact with the 90 % coveragealuminum foil shield. For applications in which the earth wire isto be used separately as an equipotentialbonding conductor and which require fullshielding, it is recommended to installcable 493. This is a 2-wire cable with abraid around the aluminium foil to whichcable and connector can be wired. Thismethod ensures full shielding. The outer jackets of both cables are rated300 volt. Therefore, a 50 mm separationmust be maintained from cables carryinggreater than 300 volt power. When usedfor I.S. or N.I. applications the sameseparation of 50 mm must be maintainedfrom other wiring even if the voltage is thesame as the IS or NI circuits.

The maximum length of a FOUNDATION™
fieldbus H1 speed network is the total ofthe trunk line cable added to the length ofall spurs.
Cable FOUNDATION™ fieldbus type A allowsfor a maximum of 1900 m/6234 ft.The physical layer can support up to 32devices per segment.
A maximum of 4 devices can be installedin an intrinsically safe area through the useof an I.S. barrier. The number of deviceslimits the length of spurs off the trunkcable.
Not all of the I/O in a fieldbus system canbe connectorized, but when it can, it isextremely effective. A few minutes oflayout and bill-of-material planning canreplace hours of costly installation wiring.Additionally, product replacing is greatlyfacilitated by using industrial grade quickdisconnect plug-and receptacles.
The range of products shown in thecatalogue are based on two industrialstandardized connectors which are called7/8" and M12 x 1. In one variation oranother these two standardizedconnectors are in production by thethousands daily. Rough estimates put the7/8" style at over 10,000 per day and theM12 x 1 at over 25,000 per day. They areused in every industry that requiresrugged economic plug-and-play. Bothwere standardized by DIN (German
The junction boxes shown in this catalogueare passive hubs. No conditioning ormonitoring takes place, however somejunctions have short circuit protection. This protects the power on the trunk andallows use in zone 2 locations. The boxesare available in two different materials;copper-free die cast aluminum with

The shear volume means that the buildprocesses for these two standards areunderstood, tooled, automated, andeconomical. The volume and diversity ofapplications means that wide selections ofoff-the-shelf products are available.
There are two coupling materials forthread parts: stainless steel and nylon. The matching pin and sleeves are madeof gold-plated brass. The body is made ofpolyurethane hot moulded to the cablejacket to provide strain relief and to sealthe factory made connections to the pinand sleeves from the atmosphere.
The 7/8" pin and sleeve are rated at 9 Aand the M12 x 1 is rated at 4 A.The designated ground pin of the 7/8"family is longer than the other pins, resulting in a ‘make first - break last’ ofthe ground. This feature is not explicitlyrequired for I.S. or N.I. applications butis a sound engineering choice. All the pinand sleeves of the M12 x 1 style makeand break at the same time duringinsertion and removal.

The junction boxes are rated IEC IP67 andNEMA 1, 3, 4, 4X, 12, 13. These ratingsare conditional requiring the cordset orcap to be installed. Although the die-casthousing is rated 4X (salt-water spray test)we highly recommend the polyurethane orfibre-glass housings for aggressiveenvironments.

Active hub – a multiple port repeater oramplifier that lengthens the branchingability of a bus.
Barrier box – product that limits current/voltage in some areas.
Brick – this is a Turck designation for afully connectorized junction, but not amaster or gateway.
Bridge – there are two types of bridges. One is a double side node that connectstwo segments together that are of thesame protocol but at different transmissionspeeds. The other is a smart repeater thatonly repeats the data between two bussegments when the source and destinationaddress are in different segments. Thebridge must be programmed to know whatthe addresses are and their respectivesegments.
Bus junction – generic name for a passivehub.
Bus line – any group of wires that carriesdata from node-to-node.
Drop line – a reduced branch (spur) froma trunk line.
Gateway – a special node on twodifferent buses that serves as a signal anddata translator between the buses.
LAS (Link Active Scheduler) – controlscommunication on the bus. Creates atoken circulation list (Live List) that definesaccess on the bus. Devices may onlycommunicate when given access by theLAS unit, multiple devices may have LAScapabilities but only one can communicateat a time.
Node – an addressable device on the bus.
Power conditioner –impedancematching device used to condition thepower on FOUNDATION™ fieldbussegment.
Repeater – a device for amplification ofsignals. It typically delays signal transferfrom one segment to the next. Repeatersare used in case of signal distortions orlong distance transfer.
Router – a higher level bridge forconnection of wide area networks.
Simple device – anything that does nothave LAS capabilities.
System tee – device to do a single spurwith connectorized cordsets or providecable termination directly in tee.
Tee – a product that creates a branch ordrop from a bus.
Terminating resistor – resistor whichterminates the bus on both cable endsand thus avoids reflexions anddisturbances.
Trunk line – the main bus line.
FOUNDATION™ fieldbus – occupants on the bus

Topology is a term that applies to buses. It describes how the data lines connectthe nodes together. The first bus goesback to the original telegraph - two datalines hanging on wooden poles goingfrom telegraph station to telegraphstation.
Bus – the simple straight-line topology iscalled a bus. Another term used is „daisychain“, where the trunk simply runs fromdevice to device.Branch – a common bus can havebranches, and sometimes the branchescan have branches. Another term used todescribe the branches is „drops“ or spursin FOUNDATION™ fieldbus. Depending uponthe bus, the branches may be restrictedto just a few centimeters or a free-formtopology with restrictions only on thecumulative distance of all data lines.Star – the bus lines radiate from a singlepoint. A junction (either passive or active)looks like a star. FOUNDATION™ fieldbusalso refers to this „chicken foot“ topologywith many branches connected in arelatively small area.
There are several different bus typesutilizing the following technologies:
Client/Server – upload-downloadinformation, setpoint changes, alarmmanagement and remote diagnostics.1-to-1 communication.
Media access – this is the “right-of-way”for talking on the bus. There are 3 maintypes:• Master Control – one super node
controls all transmission, sequence andtime. Remaining nodes do not talkunless told to by the master.
• Token Passing – this is a message shiftmethod that is incremented in amanner that allows each node achance to talk each cycle.
• CSMA – an access method allowingeach node to speak, provided that ithas something to say and no othernode is on the line.
Message Collision Avoidance – whentwo people talk simultaneously there is averbal collision. A few humans can talkand listen to some one else at the sametime but nodes can’t. Both token passingand master control do not have thatproblem. A field node can only access thebus when it is its turn to talk or when ithas been told to talk. CSMA type busesdo have this problem. Sometimes they areoperated as a master-to-slave in whichcase the problem is solved. Whenoperating in the native CSMA accessmethod, two nodes cannot start talkingsimultaneously. Two major ways havebeen developed to handle the potentialcollision:CD – collision detection – all sendersmust also be receivers. If two nodes starttalking at the same time, they will hear acollision. Both stop talking, wait a randomlength of time, then look for a clear line tostart talking again.BA – Bitwise arbitration – all sendersmust also be receivers. The bus line mustbe of a specific length or less so that allnodes hear the bit at the same time(actually the first node and the last nodecan be approximately 1/6 bit apart).
Messaging – there are three major typesin the run mode, but many more duringstart-up and initialization.• Solicicited – a response to another
node or a response when it is thenode’s predetermined time to speak(token passing).
• Unsolicited – a response to achange-of-state at that node.
• Explicit – this is a command order. Itmay command an output be turned„On“ or „Off“. It may command anynode to report it’s diagnostic status oridentity itself in full detail.
On last distinction must be made for theoutput nodes. How do they get theinformation so they know what to do?There is an overlap with the terms usedfor messaging, but there is also adifference.
Explicit Message – this is a commandfrom another node.
Limited Peer-to-Peer – exclusive one-to-one relationship between the inputnode and the output node. This could alsobe called exclusive peer-to-peer.
Unlimited Peer-to-Peer – similar tolimited peer-to-peer, but the output nodemay get information from several inputnodes.
Publisher/Subscriber – scheduleddistribution of data to nodes on subscriberlist.

FOUNDATION™ fieldbus (FF) is a networkdesigned for process control andautomation where the user requires adistributed control system. The physicallayer of the network conforms to IEC1158-2 and ISA SP50.02 fieldbusstandards. Current release of the networkis for H1 speed of 31.25 kbps. The H2protocol is being developed based on the100 MHz Ethernet standard.FOUNDATION¨™ fieldbus can also be usedin an Intrinsically Safe (I.S.) area if thecommunication cable is run through anI.S. barrier.Digital signal encoding is done usingManchester BiPhase-L and error checkingis done per the CRC method.
For a FOUNDATION™ fieldbus system likethe one shown above, the followingcomponents are needed:
System configuration
FOUNDATION™ fieldbus is a token-passingnetwork. There are three types of deviceson a FF segment: a Link Active Scheduler(LAS), a Bridge, and a Basic Device.
Upon start-up the LAS creates a TokenCirculation List (Live List) to find out who ison the network and which parameters areneeded for those devices. The LAS thenuses this information to ensure that time-critical functions are performed asrequired. It is recommended to have atleast two LAS devices on a network forredundancy. The LAS that first starts theLive List is the active device and any otherLAS device then acts as a Basic Device.
The LAS takes care of all token-passingmethods between the other devices onthe network. Only one device is allowed totalk on the network at a time. The LAS unit establishes clocksynchronization between all the deviceson the segment.
A Bridge is a device that connects an H1network to an H2 network. Basic Devicesare any devices which are not capable ofperforming LAS functions. There are threetypes of messages on the bus: Client/Server, Report Distribution and Publisher/Subscriber.
