“I really enjoyed our first visit to the Yas Ma-
rina Circuit at the end of last season. The
track is interesting to drive with a unique
layout with the unusual pit lane exit and the
day/night programme makes a change from
the usual format of a race weekend. It was
good to be back in the points in Brazil last
Sunday and we hope to finish the season
with another good result here before looking
ahead to next season which will definitely be
stronger for us.”
“We had quite an encouraging weekend in
Sao Paulo, even if it did not show too much
to the outside, as our pace in qualifying and
the race was satisfying. The final race week-
end in Abu Dhabi will be exciting for me as I
will be driving this impressive circuit for the
first time. Obviously the main focus of the
fans and the media will be on the champion-
ship fight so we will be able to work calmly
and concentrate on our own weekend. I’m
sure that everyone in the team is motivated
to deliver a good last performance of the
season.”
“The final race of the 2010 season takes us
to the home Grand Prix for our Abu Dhabi
based shareholders and partner Aabar. We
were extremely impressed with the Yas Ma-
rina Circuit on our first visit and look forward
to an exciting weekend which will see the bat-
tle for the Drivers’ Championship concluded.
For the MERCEDES GP PETRONAS team, on
the back of our double-points finish in Brazil,
we would like to finish this challenging sea-
son on an equally strong note before turning
our attentions fully to next year.”
“We are all looking forward to a thrilling final
race of a great season which still sees four
drivers with a chance of competing for the
championship. Abu Dhabi is one of our team’s
home races as our shareholder and partner,
Aabar, have their headquarters here. Our
team will not be taking anything for granted
and our target is to achieve the best possi-
ble result with our current technical package.
As in recent races, we want to be right there
if a driver in one of the currently faster cars
should have a problem. It would be a nice re-
ward for the team to conclude this very long
and tough season, which saw everyone give
their all, with a reasonable result.”

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which had been
staged for the first time in 2009 was the
second in Middle East besides the Bahrain
GP which saw its premiere back in 2004.
The Yas Marina circuit is 5.554 kilometers
long, features nine righthand turns and 11
lefthand turns and is one of five venues on
the calendar run in an anti-clockwise direc-
tion. The track is located on the Yas Island.
The circuit has been designed by German
architect Hermann Tilke. The waterfront set-
ting offers a similar backdrop like Monaco
and Valencia. A 500-room Hotel straddles
the circuit, and the 60-metre solar powered
Sun Tower offers spectacular views for
invited guests.
All grandstand seats are covered to protect
spectators from the desert sun.
In the first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix one year
ago, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver
Lewis Hamilton started from pole position.
Jenson Button, who had arrived as the new
World Champion drove his Brawn Mercedes
to a third place finish in the race ahead of his
team mate Rubens Barrichello.

Team history
The return of the Silver Arrows in the 2010
Formula One World Championship with the
new MERCEDES GP PETRONAS Formula One
Team begins the latest chapter in the proud
116 year history of motorsport success for
Daimler and Mercedes-Benz.
The Silver Arrows were born on 3 June 1934
when Manfred von Brauchitsch won the Eifel-
rennen at the Nürburgring at the wheel of a
Mercedes W25. The car’s white paintwork
had been sanded down to meet the weight
requirements and the car raced in the silver
colour of its aluminium body.
On 4 July 1954, the Silver Arrows returned
for the first time: Juan Manuel Fangio drove
his W196 streamliner to victory in the French
Grand Prix at Reims which he won ahead of
his team mate Karl Kling. It was the first For-
mula One race win for Mercedes-Benz.
Mercedes-Benz has been a force in motor
sport since 1894. The first four cars home
in the race from Paris to Rouen on 22 July in
that year were powered by a 954cc V2 en-
gine designed by Gottlieb Daimler. This victo-
ry set the ball rolling and in subsequent dec-
ades, the marque won countless races. For
the Nice-Salon-Nice race of 1901, Daimler’s
cars were entered under the name Mercedes
for the first time, named after the daughter of
the Daimler importer and racing driver, Emil
Jellinek. The event was won by the Mercedes
of the German driver Wilhelm Werner.
