DEEPWATER DEPOSITIONAL SYSTEMS

Your Expert Course Leader

Carol Hopkins Carol is the Geosciences Technical Director for petroEDGE. Formerly, Carol was the manager of Robertson Petroleum Training Centre & a Senior Project Scientist at Robertson CGG.

Here is what past learners have said about her previous training courses: - "It was overall a nice experience. Detailed explanations were given by the instruction and there were hands-on exercises on

samples, processes etc” Petrographer-Sedimentologis, Core Laboratories Int BV

“Very informative examples given by Carol are relevant and excellent. Course is too compact, almost as if it is for a 2 weeks length course. Do extend the time but maintain course content” Jr Geoscientist, JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Malaysia

“A very useful course. The trainer is very knowledgeable in the subject and I find that her explanation can be well understood” Junior Geologist, JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Malaysia

“Great eye opening review of geological facies and seismic interpretation” PP, SC “Overall is good & the trainer is experienced in this topic” Geologist, JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Malaysia)

DEEPWATER DEPOSITIONAL SYSTEMS

About this training course This course examines different deepwater depositional systems and considers how deepwater process, topography and sediment supply impact on these systems. The course examines analogue data from turbidite reservoirs and modern turbidite systems. Depositional settings and sequences associated with clastic deepwater systems are reviewed, along with the geological controls on reservoir quality and architecture. It also examines post-depositional process that can have a major impact on reservoir quality and architecture, and considers this within the context of the petroleum system.

Key learning objectives: Gain an understanding of deepwater depositional systems, how they form and how they are identified using

different data sets

To recognize how deepwater process and environments impact on reservoir properties, and to be able to predict reservoir quality

Interpret turbidite depositional environments using data from core, seismic and wireline logs

Who should attend? Geologists from exploration and production, geophysicists, reservoir engineers and petrophysicists.

About your Expert Course Leader: Carol Hopkins Carol is the Geosciences Technical Director for petroEDGE. Formerly, Carol was the manager of Robertson Petroleum Training Centre & a Senior Project Scientist at Robertson CGG. Carol has 20 years’ experience of teaching geology and leading field trips. Prior to her 8 years at Robertson, Carol was in academia as a lecturer for 6 years and a Research Fellow for 3 years. She has conducted fieldwork and led fieldtrips in the US and many areas of the UK.

In addition, Carol has lead university regional geology day schools and has comprehensive experience in course and study programme writing. Carol has extensive experience of delivering courses and in Clastic and Carbonate Reservoir Geology, Wireline Log Interpretation, Integrated Sequence Stratigraphy, Basin Analysis and Exploration & Appraisal workshops globally. In delivering the Exploration Team Management Workshop she has project managed and taught key principles and modules on project planning, data collection/collation, geophysical assessment, stratigraphy and facies mapping, source rock facies and hydrocarbon generation, play fairway mapping, risking and prospect evaluation. Carol’s knowledge and enthusiasm for instructing is reflected in consistently being rated as excellent by trainees, and clients specifically requesting her participation in courses.
