Dear Members,
I hope each of you enjoyed a
healthy and happy summer. It is
amazing to look at the calendar
and see September, the time to
return to school, to rake leaves, to
walk in brisk mornings, to energize
our Volunteer projects and
celebrate our BSA 75th year.
We have an exciting Fall Season:
BSA 75th Celebration, Kitchens of
Note/Symphony of Chefs, Tea at
the Octagon, Family Concert
Luncheons, Holiday Photos, the
beginning of the 2017-18 school
concert series and more.
Important information regarding
these events and volunteer
activities will be arriving in your
email boxes soon. Sign up and get
your tickets! Volunteering is fun
and rewarding.
It is also time to renew your BSA
membership. I invite all returning
BSA members to introduce or
sponsor a potential new member
to our activities. If they get to
know us they will join us! If you
have not sent in your paperwork,
please do so promptly and
consider adding an additional
contribution.
The Board and I look forward to joining you in the 2017-18 year. See you soon .
Warmest regards,
Marguerite

Each of the six houses on the Tour needs 4-
5 House Monitors each shift. All monitors
must be able to stand 3 hours; there are no
sitting positions in any of the houses. Shifts
are 9:30-12:30 and 12:00-3:00. Each
monitor will have a specific duty at the
house, i.e., directing traffic in the house,
helping guests to put on booties, blocking
areas of the home that are not to be visited,
telling people where to put their trash and
how to exit. Volunteers must buy a
discounted ticket for $50.00 that will enable
them to visit all the houses on the tour after
their morning shift or before their
afternoon shift. Send checks made out to
the BSA to Margaret Galambos, 42 Bouton
Green Court, Baltimore, MD 21210. This is
a self-driving tour and you may park near
your assigned home.
To volunteer, please contact Margaret
Galambos at [email protected] or
410-433-4575.
Our fundraiser includes several raffles with great prizes including a 50/50 Cash Raffle and Gift
Baskets. Raffle tickets will be sold the day of the tour at the Mays Chapel Methodist Church
and also at several BSO concerts. Check the website for details www.kitchensofnote.org
.
How can you help? Buy a ticket and enjoy the tour! Volunteer to be a home monitor. Buy a few raffle tickets. Ante up for the Cash Raffle.
Help us fill our Dine-Around Gift Bag by asking the restaurants you patronize to contribute a Gift Certificate for this
worthy cause. Spread the word to your friends and family and direct them to the website.
This is an event everyone will enjoy!

SAY HELLO TO VIKKI MCADORY
The BSA is very pleased to welcome Vikki McAdory as
our new Office Manager. Vikki was born and raised
in Baltimore, graduated from Eastern High and
attended the University of Maryland at College Park.
She began working for the government at the Social
Security Administration in 1971 and retired after 32
years of service, having spent her last 10 years as a
manager in the Office of Disability Operations. Also,
in her 30’s she decided to fulfill a childhood dream
and became a licensed hair stylist, working at that
part-time for 10 years!
After retirement Vikki followed her passion for the
arts and received a certificate degree in Interior
Design from CCBC, enhanced her sewing skills by
taking classes in Fashion Design at BCCC and started
a book club which celebrated its 15th year this past
May. She loves the arts in all forms – museum visits,
attending plays and concerts (classical to R&B) and
anything related to fashion and design.
Vikki is married, has a daughter and a son and a 13-
year-old granddaughter.
How did she connect with the BSA? After attending
the Decorator Show House for many years and
assisting one of the decorators at the Villa Vista
house, she called the BSA office to ask why there was
no Show House in 2016 and left her contact
information.
When she received a 2017 Show House volunteer
packet in the mail, she eagerly signed up and joined
the BSA at the same time. Vikki was already thinking
about her next steps in retirement when she saw the
posting for the Office Manager position. The stars
were aligned… and we are thrilled to welcome her as
our Office Manager as of this past July!
MUSICIANS’ LOUNGE REFURBISHED
While much of the fundraising efforts of the BSA are
dedicated to the BSO Education Fund, we also
provide assistance in other areas. Helene Breazeale,
our VP for Special Services and Events, coordinated
the purchase of new chairs for the Musicians’ Lounge
as well as the addition of new pieces to the lounge
artwork. We are also putting up a plaque dedicated
to the memory of BSA Past President Maurice
Feldman in the lounge. Maurice’s mother was one of
the first female members of the orchestra and he was
both a music educator and symphony devotee.
Do You Have an Occasion to Celebrate or Recognize? The Perfect Solution…
BSA ALL OCCASION CONTRIBUTION CARDS

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
THE BSA USHERING PROGRAM
The BSO season is beginning with wonderful and
exciting programs. Join us as a volunteer usher
and help bring the music to our youngest
audiences. Opportunities include mid-week
concerts attended by capacity audiences of
students, weekend events for the very young or
for families and open rehearsals for select groups
of older students. If you received a volunteer
form, please return it as soon as possible. If you
need a volunteer form, please contact the
Associates' Office at 410-783-8023 and it can be
e-mailed or mailed to you. Help share the joy of
music and encourage our future concert
subscribers by becoming a volunteer usher.
BSA STORE
The BSA Store at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall is
open at most concerts and we need volunteers
to help staff it. If you enjoy helping customers
and would be able to volunteer a few hours for
this excellent source of funds (and can resist
buying all the jewelry), please contact the office
([email protected] or 410.783.8023) and
Vikki will put you in touch with Larry Albrecht, VP
of the Symphony Store.
THE POWER OF ASK
Research has shown that many people don’t
volunteer simply because they aren’t asked.
Let’s put that to use and start asking – your
friends and family, neighbors, coworkers,
professional associates. Tell them about the
wonderful work that the BSA does and ask them
to not only support our efforts but also to join us
in this most worthwhile endeavor.
If you know someone who might be interested in
joining the BSA, contact the BSA Office Manager
([email protected] or 410.783.8023).
She will be happy to send them an information
packet and membership form. The more
members we have, the more we can do to
support the BSO!
Just Ask!

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION EVENT
Last June the BSA sponsored its annual
Volunteer Appreciation Event at the Meyerhoff
Symphony Hall. Volunteers were treated to an
array of delicious desserts and then were
entertained by the cast of Forever Plaid, one of
the Cockpit in Court summer productions.
James Hunnicutt
Director and Costume Coordinator James
Hunnicutt gave us a summary of the show and
provided context for each of the songs while
Patricia DeLisle provided the musical
accompaniment. The very talented cast of four –
Ryan Slattery, Connor Moore, Zachary Miller and
Josh Schoff – entertained everyone with a
selection of lively and fun songs that included
audience participation.
Everybody sing Ma-til-da!
Thanks to co-chairs Estelle Harris and Louise
Higgins for planning this delightful evening.
