Don't treat Jammu & Kashmiras ego problem: Yashwant Sinha

MUMBAI, Jan 31:

Senior BJP leader YashwantSinha today batted for settingaside of egos and holding talks tosolve the problems plaguingJammu and Kashmir.

"The people of Jammu andKashmir were already upset dueto some reasons and BurhanWani's incident came as a triggerfor the state-wide agitation. I feelJammu and Kashmir should notbe treated as an ego problem...You talk to people and territorywill follow," Sinha said here at apresentation titled 'Kashmir, insearch of solution'.

Talking to people from allsections is more important thanportraying the issue as merely a"territorial" one, he said.

"Kashmiris have lost theirfaith with Indian state over aperiod of time. They have a feel-ing of betrayal from the IndianGovernment, because of the useof pellet guns. Did Governmentuse pellet guns at Marina beach

in Tamil Nadu or during thestrong agitation of Jat communi-ty in Haryana?" Sinha asked.

"Why was it used extensivelyin Kashmir? It is giving a wrongmessage to Kashmiri people,"the former finance minister said.

"During my discussions withstakeholders in Kashmir, I I wasalso told that aggressive debateson some television channelshave damaged image of the statein the country," he said.

"If you show an iota of sym-pathy to Kashmiris, you arelabelled as an anti-national, I feelthe Kashmiri youth is complete-ly alienated from the IndianGovernment. They don't believein India. They are bitter and havelost fear of getting killed," headded.

Sinha said that during theirmeetings, many traders and peo-ple said that they don't mindincurring losses but they want asolution to the 70-year-old prob-lem.(PTI)
