READER RESPONSE STRATEGIES TO

INCREASE COMPREHENSION OF

COMPLEX TEXTS

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2014

9:00am-12:30pm

Reader response journaling is the most effective way to

• increase comprehension [2010 Carnegie report "Writing to Read"]

• include short daily writing in all content areas

• teach students to respond to text including textual evidence

• prepare for standardized tests, I.E. Georgia Milestones

Educators will learn strategies and activities to take back to their classrooms. Examples from Grade 1-10 classrooms will be shared.

$50  registration  fee  includes  a  copy  of  The  Write  to  Read:  Response  Journals    That  Increase  Comprehension

___ Feb 28: LITERACY CONFERENCE with writer Barry Lane and 2 Breakout Sessions (8:30-1:00) ($25)

___ Mar 28: COLLABORATION Strategies to Engage Reluctant Readers & Writers and Plan Units that Meet Standards in Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening ($40 includes No More “Us” and “Them)

___ Apr 18: POETRY Writing ($25)
