ACCREDITATION INFORMATION

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS

ENGAGE-IL-OALIG has created online modules that are eligible for continuing education credit.

The ENGAGE-IL Interprofessional Geriatric Online Accredited Learning (ENGAGE-IL-OALIG) modules are accredited by:

• American Dental Association (ADA) (Under Review)

• Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians (CME)

• Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) to provide continuing pharmacy education (CPE)

• American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing nursing education

• UIC ENGAGE-IL is an American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Approved Provider (#10173) to provide continuing education

• Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to provide continuing Social Work credit

ENGAGE-IL maintains a complete, permanent (at least 7 years) record of each learner’s participation and will provide a copy of that record on written request.

STATEMENT OF NEED Our program challenges health care professionals to enhance their geriatric expertise and reduce the practice gap. Our needs assessment (Jan. 2015) of 500 professionals via anonymous survey showed 50% reported their geriatric population as 51% or higher. Most (60%) felt their level of geriatric proficiency was "proficient," but only 13% felt it was "exemplary." Thus, there is a huge potential (need) for enhancing geriatric knowledge for providers. 63% reported they were "extremely/very" interested in learning more about geriatric care, and 64% said they would partake in a geriatric course. TARGET AUDIENCE This activity has been planned by and for an interprofessional audience of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, occupational therapy practitioners, including occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants, dentists and other healthcare professionals interested in geriatrics. If you do not wish to receive continuing education credit, you may review the material, but you are not required to complete the evaluation survey. ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCE This activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the American Dental Association, American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), Illinois Department of

Financial and Professional Regulation and the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of medical knowledge, patient care and procedural skills, and practice based learning and improvement. This activity also focuses on the interprofessional competencies of values/ethics for interprofessional practice, roles/responsibilities, interprofessional communication and teams/teamwork. AVAILABLE CREDITS All ENGAGE-IL- OALIG modules are measured by actual clock hours. With the exception of 4 modules, all of the online education films are 30 minutes in length. The module evaluation survey is not included in the calculation of the number of clock hours associated with a given module. Although a learner may take his/her own time to complete the module (which includes answering the embedded assessment questions in the module), the length of the course will be pre-determined for a set number of continuing education units. Dentists Contact hours as indicated (o.5 or 1.0) for approved modules

Nurses Contact hours as indicated on each module

Occupational therapy practitioners

CEUs are calculated by dividing contact hours by 10 hours and are awarded in full- or half-hour increments. As such the minimum amount awarded will be .05 CEU and the maximum .1 CEU. Contact hours as indicated on each module

Pharmacists Contact hours as indicated on each module
