Preface:
The International Conference on Advances in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering "ICASGE" is organized in Hurghada, Egypt in March 2019 by the Structural Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Tanta University, Egypt. The conference is the third in series to be organized after the great success of the previous two conferences ICASGE'15 and ICASGE'17 held in Hurghada, Egypt.
The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for researchers and professionals from various fields related to the theory of structures, soil mechanics and foundation engineering, reinforced concrete constructions, properties and testing of materials, environmental engineering, steel constructions, construction management, etc…, to exchange and discuss the latest findings and experiences. The Conference program includes invited keynote lectures that are delivered by national and international speakers. The program includes also a number of oral presentations that are presented in parallel sessions. The official language of the Conference is English. The organizing committee has received over 150 abstracts from China, Nigeria, India, Congo, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Libya, Iraqi Kurdistan, Australia, Canada, Egypt, Germany, Sudan, Cameron, Japan, Portugal and USA. Out of these abstracts about 110 full length papers were carefully selected after peer review to be included in the conference program in the disciplines of Geotechnical Engineering, Reinforced Concrete Structures, Structural Analysis, Materials, Steel Structures and Construction Management. In addition to the papers, the program of the conference is heavily loaded with 10 keynote lectures. This book of abstracts is an excellent reference of the papers. Full length papers are included in the conference flash memory that is equipped with an electronic search engine. All in all, the conference is an excellent opportunity to build professional networks, talk with speakers and participants, make new contacts and enjoy the conference. The organizing committee hope to assist senior and young engineers, researchers, and specialized academics to come together and update their knowledge and understanding regarding the advances in structural and geotechnical engineering issues. The organizing committee has sent every effort to make sure that the conference venue, environment, technical and social program are pleasant and memorable experience for all participants, speakers, sponsors and accompanying persons.

Tanta University Tanta University is located in the centre of Nile Delta at Al-Gharbiyah
governorate, Egypt. In 1976 a decree of the Council of Ministers President
No. 1142 on the amendment of the same Regulation which added the
faculties of dentistry, pharmacy, law, engineering, agriculture and
veterinary medicine, education at Kafr El-Sheikh and the Higher Institute of
Nursing (followed to the Faculty of Medicine) of the University of Tanta.
Starting from the academic year of 1991/1992, the study was initiated at
the Faculty of Engineering according to the decree of the Council of Tanta
University on 18/09/1991. The Faculty of Engineering enrols almost 5000
undergraduates and over 800 postgraduates. About 200 staff members
(Professors, Associate professors and Assistant professors) and 180
assisting staff members (demonstrators and assistant lecturers). In fall
2015, the Faculty of Engineering was accredited by the National Authority
for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE).
Structural Engineering Department Structural Engineering Department, established in 1991, is one of the
esteemed departments of the Faculty of Engineering at Tanta University.
The department has about 80 academic staff members. Almost 2100
students are enrolled in the under graduate program and about 350
students, in six disciplines, postgraduate program.
The department has three main laboratories. These laboratories are:
Reinforced concrete and heavy structures laboratory,
Soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering laboratory, and
Construction materials testing laboratory (accredited according to
ISO17025)

A comparison of the Nile River and Mississippi River
Biography:
PE, PhD Professor, University of New Orleans Dean of Engineering - Interim ASCE 2017 President. I am currently Past President of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), elected in a general election by the membership of the organization. It is a three-year commitment. As President-elect, my duties were to primarily visit domestic grassroots units such as Sections and Branches, as well as Younger Member and Student groups. There I acted as a liaison between the ASCE Board of Direction and the grassroots membership, developing both the knowledgebase and skills of our upcoming leaders and identifying how the organization can healthily move into the future given the changes in the needs and mindset of our younger members and potential members. As President, I travelled internationally as well as represented the organization in its advocacy on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. I also chaired the Board of Direction. During this year we began developing a new strategic plan and vision for the organization and for the profession. As Past President, I am a voting member of the Board of Direction and provide guidance for several ASCE Committees, helping to steward the leadership of the organization as it implements the strategies
and goals that were just decided the year before.

As the Chair of the Civil Engineering Department, Dr. Sennah has combined technical and academic leadership in restructuring Ryerson’s Civil Engineering program and creating the Structural Engineering Option to address societal needs - providing students with greater opportunities for experiential learning in partnership with the industry. Dr. Sennah, core area of expertise includes design, evaluation and rehabilitation of bridges on which he has more than 260 publications and supervised over 75 graduate students. In collaboration with Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and industry partners in USA, Canada, Germany, his research team conducted innovative research on the development of: (i) prefabricated bridge elements and connection technologies to accelerate bridge construction, (ii) crashworthy and cost-effective, GFRP-reinforced, bridge barrier for sustainable construction, (iii) precast bridge barriers to accelerate bridge replacement, (iv) non-destructive test methods to detect voids in ducts and break or extensive corrosion of presrtessing cables at the high points of post tensioned bridge decks without concrete and asphalt invasion, (v) reliable expression of limiting spans to accommodate temperature changes and truck load distribution in straight and skew integral abutment bridges, and (vi) cost-effective and accelerated FRP repair strategy to bridge girders damaged by vehicle impact. by a vehicle carrying an over-height load in 2010.
