Robert  Mendoza  College  of  Health  and  Human  Development  |  STUDENT  SPOTLIGHT

What is a challenge you have faced and how did you overcome it?

How has the College of Health and Human Development prepared you for your future?

Being  denied  acceptance  into  graduate  school  at  CSUF.    It  never  feels  good  to  be  rejected,  but  I  knew  I  could  succeed  at  the  graduate  level  and  had  to  just  commit  myself  to  a  greater  level,  which  I  did  by  taking  extra  classes.    After  applying  the  second  time,  I  was  admitted  to  the  program.

HEALTH  AND  HUMAN  DEVELOPMENT  STUDENTS  REACH  HIGHER!

CHHD  has  created  a  scholarly  environment,  which  I  believe  has  allowed  me  to  grow  as  a  student  and  interact  with  faculty  members.    This  has  been  an  integral  part  of  my  education.

What steps are you taking to graduate on time?

I  don’t  worry  about  graduating  “on  time”  here  at  CSUF.    I  have  come  to  understand  that  there  is  no  normal  length  a  student  spends  in  school,  and  that  it  is  more  important  to  focus  on  being  the  best  student  one  can  be.

“He  who  is  not  courageous  enough  to  take  risks  will  accomplish

nothing  in  life.”  ~Muhammad  Ali

What are some tips you have for students at CSUF? Be  honest  with  yourself  and  give  your  best  effort  when  it  comes  to  schoolwork.    Do  not  be  afraid  to  ask  questions  in  class.    I  believe  that  the  moments  you  allow  yourself  to  be  vulnerable  offer  the  most  and  biggest  moments  for  you  to  grow  as  a  person.

Robert  Mendoza  is  a  second  year  graduate  student  studying  Kinesiology  with  an  emphasis  in  Sport  Psychology.    He  plans  to  one-‐

day  work  with  champion  combat  sport  athletes.    Robert  is  part  of  the  Sport  Psychology  club.    This  club  provides  him  with  like-‐minded  students  with  an  interest  in  sport  psychology  to  discuss  ideas  that  are  relevant  to  the  field.    Robert  is  also  given  the  opportunity  to  plan  events  in

which  club  members  can  hone  their  skills  by  taking  the  knowledge  learned  in  the  classroom  and  apply  it  to  athletes.    Robert  is  able  to  meet  new  people  through  being  involved.  His  involvements  have  allowed  him  to  open  his  mind  to  new  experiences  and  ideas.
