(1/15/07) Melanie Hageman (Jr., Fargo, N.D./Fargo South HS) had a doubledouble with 20 points and 10 assists, one of 10 Concordia players to score in a 7956 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Monday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall. The Cobbers scored the first 10 points of the game and jumped out to a 201 lead in the first 4:45 of play, eventually leading 4024 at halftime. The Auggies cut the lead to 14 points early in the second half, but Concordia used a 154 run to take a 25piont lead, 5732 with 13:27 left, and eventually extended the lead to as many as 31 points down the stretch. Michelle Richter (So., Chaska, Minn.) led Augsburg (112 overall, 19 MIAC) with 14 points and five rebounds, while Kristina Lurken (Jr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon Wanamingo HS) had 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Annie Keeley (Sr., Grafton, N.D.) scored 14 points with six rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Cobbers, and Sara Sorbo (Fr., Adams, N.D./AdamsEdmore HS) had 12 points.

GAMEDAY GAME NOTES Ø Concordia clinched its fifth straight MIAC playoff appearance on Saturday. The Cobbers have now earned a trip to the conference playoffs in six of the seven years the tournament has been held. Overall, Concordia will be making its 27th foray into postseason play. The MIAC first round will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 20, when the No.3 seed will host the No.6 seed and the No.4 seed will host the No.5 seed. Game times will be at 7:30 p.m. CC needs one more win to assure themselves of a first round home game. Look for the Cobbers to host either St. Thomas or St. Kate’s on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Ø Concordia will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Cobbers’ Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) Division III national championship on Wednesday at halftime of Concordia’s game with Augsburg. The 198182 team is one of two Cobber women’s basketball teams to win a national championship. Next season, the Cobbers will honor the 20th anniversary of the 198788 NCAA Division III national championship team. Ø The roster for the 198182 national championship team looked like this: Nicki Peters, Marybeth Stephan, Karna Johnson, Kris Ludtke, Lisa Abicht, Paula Langseth, Nancy Halda, Mary Moenkedick, Patty Niemann, Naomi Wahlin, JoDee Bock, Sue Ekberg, Kim Cowman and Joan Jondahl. The team was coached by Mark Langseth and went 313 on the year including a perfect 80 record in the MIAC. In the national tournament, the team beat Malone College (Ohio), Millersville College (Pa.) and finally Mt. Mercy College (Iowa) in the thrilling 7372 championship game. Ø The Concordia athletic department would like to thank all the 198182 players who made it back for tonight’s game and would also like to congratulate all the team members for adding to the rich legacy that is the Cobber athletic tradition. Ø Annie Keeley and Melanie Hageman were named to the prestigious ESPN The Magazine Academic AllDistrict Teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) last Thursday. Hageman was selected to the Academic AllDistrict Second Team while Keeley was placed on the AllDistrict Third Team. It is the first time in both players' careers that they have earned the ultimate academic district honor. Hageman carries a 3.73 grade point average while majoring in biology and Keeley has a 3.87 grade point average and is majoring in nursing. The teammates are two of only three players from the MIAC who earned Academic AllDistrict honors. Ø Keeley broke the school record for 3point field goals in a career on Wednesday. Keeley connected on a shot from behind the arc with 2:30 left to go in the Cobbers’ game with Bethel to set the mark. Keeley now has 165 3point field goals in her career. Ø Augsburg (122 overall, 119 MIAC) fell in two contests to MIAC foes during the past week, falling 6953 to St. Benedict and 5845 to St. Mary’s. Augsburg will close out its season by hosting Bethel on Saturday. The Auggies have lost 18 straight heading into tonight’s game. Ø Point guard Kristina Lurken recorded 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists in the loss to St. Benedict, while scoring 11 points with nine rebounds and an assist in the loss to St. Mary’s. Lurken, who is averaging a teamhigh 11.1 points per game this season, has scored in double figures in 17 of Augsburg’s 23 games this season. She currently leads the conference in overall assists per game (4.09). Ø Michelle Richter scored 18 points against St. Benedict, while recording eight points against St. Mary’s. Katie LaGrave had 12 points against St. Mary’s.

COBBER SENIOR SENDOFF Today’s game marks the final time that Concordia’s three seniors will take the court at Memorial Auditorium for a regular season home game. Annie Keeley, Sarah Krabbenhoft and Leanne White have seen the resurrection of Cobber women’s basketball back to the top of the MIAC. They have been key components of the team that won the MIAC playoff championship last season and earned a spot in the NCAA playoffs. Augsburg (122 overall, 119 MIAC) was led by Katie LaGrave (Jr., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS), who scored 12 points with five rebounds and two assists. Two secondhalf scoring runs sealed the game for the Cardinals. A 122 run gave the Cardinals a 4434 lead with 11:57 left to play, with Tanke scoring eight points in the run. After Augsburg cut the lead to four points at 4642 with 7:56 left, the Cardinals again pulled away, outscoring the Auggies by a 123 margin the rest of the way.
