Moorhead, MN
GAME TIME: 3:00 p.m. SERIES: Blazers lead 3021 SERIES STARTED: 1980 LAST MEETING: It was a hole they could never climb out of. The Cobbers dug a sky scraperlike foundation in the first half against St. Ben's and lost 7254 in the conference opening game for both schools on Wednesday. The cold hard facts of the opening 20 minutes show that the Cobbers shot a frigid 217.7% (5of23) from the floor and did not hit a 3point basket the entire half (0for6). Concordia scored only 14 points and turned the ball over 15 times in the first 20 minutes. CC scored the opening points in the game and then watched as the Blazer offense went on a 324 run in the first 16 minutes of play.
Freshman guard Sara Sorbo led Concordia with 12 points and senior forward Sarah Krabbenhoft chipped in 11 points as the pair was the only two Concordia players in double figures. Annie Keeley and Melanie Hageman who were averaging a combined 40.0 points coming into the game, were held to only 11 total points.

GAMEDAY GAME NOTES Ø Well, the first half of the MIAC season is in the books and the race is shaping up just the way it had been predicted. After the first 11 games of the season, there are four teams left that have a legitimate chance at winning the conference regularseason crown. The Cobbers are currently tied for third place with Carleton and two games behind leagueleading St. Ben’s. Gustavus is sandwiched in between, one game behind the Blazers and one game ahead of the Knights and Cobbers. The secondhalf schedule favors Carleton who gets to play all three of the top teams at home. The Gusties have two home games while CC has only today’s game vs. one of the top three teams. CSB has to go on the road for all three games against the conference crown seekers. Ø Concordia enters today’s game on a seasonhigh fivegame winning streak. The Cobbers cruised past St. Mary’s on Wednesday to earn their 10 th overall victory, marking the 32 nd consecutive season that CC has won at least 10 games. They have posted doubledigit win totals in every season since the 1974 season. Ø The milestone watch for a pair of Cobbers continues. Senior guard Annie Keeley now needs 15 more 3point field goals to become the school’s alltime leader in 3point baskets. She had two on Wednesday to close the gap on recordholder Brandi Myers ’01. Junior Melanie Hageman is now 52 points away from becoming the 21 st player in program history to reach the 1,000point barrier. Ø One of the keys for the Cobbers in their fivegame winning streak has been the improved play of freshman guard Sara Sorbo. Sorbo has posted doubledigit point totals in backtoback games and is coming off one of the most impressive outings of her maroon and gold career. Against the Cardinals on Wednesday, she scored 11 points had four assists, three rebounds and came away with a seasonhigh six steals. Ø Once again, Cobber fans, the number to watch for is 35 – as in 35% field goal percentage. Concordia is a perfect 100 when they shoot better than 35.0% from the floor and 04 when they fail to reach that mark. Ø Saint Ben’s enters the second half of the MIAC season with a onegame lead over secondplace Gustavus and a twogame margin over Concordia and Carleton. Like the Cobbers, the next week will go a long way in determining the future of the Blazers. After today’s game, CSB will play at Carleton on Wednesday and then at Gustavus next Saturday. A road sweep for St. Ben’s would put them well out in front to claim the MIAC regularseason championship. Ø The road to defending their MIAC regularseason title has been made a lot tougher the past few weeks as the Blazers have been bitten by the injury bug. Senior starting guard Katie Kempe went down with a seasonending injury at the start of the month and then senior forward Jen Dalhed was recently lost to an ankle injury. Dalhed missed the game on Wednesday against St. Thomas and might be out for 23 weeks. Ø After losing to St. Catherine’s for the first time since 197980, 6352 on Saturday in St. Paul, the Blazers bounced back to down Hamline 8356 on Monday. CSB then closed out the first round by beating St. Thomas 47 44 on Wednesday. Ø The Blazers are currently undefeated at home with a 60 record but have a 43 mark in games played outside the St. Joseph city limits. Last year, CSB went 112 at home and 104 on the road. Ø CSB leads the MIAC in scoring defense (50.1 ppg), steals (14.4 spg), scoring margin (16.8 ppg), fewest turnovers (13.9 pg), and 3 pt field goals made (6.8 pg). Ø Senior Darby Noreen is the conference leader in 3pt field goal pct (.448), while junior Mackenzie O’Neil leads in steals (3.4 pg).

Cobber Last Game Recap MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/17/07) Concordia has started a trend in the past two games of their fivegame winning streak. Jump out of the gates quickly, take a huge lead at the start of the second half and then coast to the conference victory. That itinerary played out once again in the Cobbers' 6442 win at home over St. Mary's on Wednesday. Against Augsburg on Monday, Concordia bolted to a 201 lead and then jumped out to a 25point lead in the first part of the second half before finally beating the Auggies 7956. Against the Cardinals on Wednesday, CC started on a 142 run, built the lead to 22 points at 4927 just after the break and downshifted their way to the 22point win. Against St. Mary's, the Cobbers shot 39.7% (25of63) from the floor and 35.7% (5of14) from 3point range. The Cobber defense turned up the pressure and keyed the victory. CC held SMU to only 29.5% (13of44) from the field and 20.0% (3of15) from behind the arc. Concordia also forced the Cardinals into committing 21 turnovers. CC turned those 21 miscues into an 182 advantage in points off of turnovers. Three guards scored in double figures for Concordia. Annie Keeley led all scorers with 14 points. She went 2of4 from 3point range and needs only 15 more 3point field goals to break the school record for 3point baskets made in a career.
Freshman Sara Sorbo was a terror on both ends of the court. The 58 dynamo dove for loose balls all night long and finished with 11 points and a gamehigh six steals. It is the fourth time in the past five games that she has led the team in steals. Jenna Freudenberg added 10 points for CC and has now scored in double figures in three of the team's past four games. Junior post player Melanie Hageman was limited to a season low five points and now needs 52 more points to reach the 1,000 point milestone for her career. St. Mary's was led by Nichole Hanson who came off the bench to score a teamhigh 12 points. Jessica Weisbrod was the only other SMU player to score more than six points in the game. She added 10 points. Kelly Tanke had a gamehigh six rebounds.
Blazer Last Game Recap (Courtesy of St. Benedict SID)
The College of Saint Benedict basketball team defeated the University of Saint Thomas 4744 in St. Paul, Minn. The Blazers remain in the top spot in the conference with a 101 MIAC record. CSB was led by senior post Ellie Boone (Maple Grove, Minn. / Maple Grove HS) who recorded her second, and the team's third, doubledouble performance of the season. She finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore forward Ariel Tauer (Edina, Minn. / Edina HS) matched Boone's points with 12 of her own. Boone and Tauer scored the last five points for CSB to stay ahead of the Tommies.
The Blazers shot just 34 percent from the field in the contest. Despite their offensive struggles, their hard work and determination paid off in the end. CSB outrebounded Saint Thomas 4129. The Blazer defense improved down the stretch when it was needed the most. With just a two point lead, CSB was able to shut down three consecutive Tommie attempts to score in the final minute of regulation.
The Blazers are next in action at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20 at ConcordiaMoorhead.
